Something Serious . . .

I do not typically post about things which are so sad, but with the news of the past week I feel like I need to say something about bullying. First of all, my prayers go out for the family whose son took his life. My heart would be broken if this boy were my son or grandson.

Secondly, we must, MUST be sure our children and grandchildren know it is NEVER okay to bully anyone. Period. Jesus called on us to love God with all our heart, all our soul, with all we are AND to love others as we love ourselves. Matthew 22: 37-40 -Jesus said, "'Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.' This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: 'Love others as well as you love yourself.' These two commands are pegs; everything in God's Law and the Prophets hangs from them." (the Message)

Take time, MAKE time to talk with your grandchildren and help them understand bullying involves physically being unkind to another, verbally being unkind to another AND even excluding others. Help them understand what it means to show the love God calls us to show to others and pray for them. Pray they will choose to show God's love to others and pray if they are being bullied, they will share their questions and their pain with others before they do something which can not be undone.
