grandma's bookshelf - Cookie Monster's Busy Day

Most children know who Cookie Monster is - and they love him! So, when I saw a new book from Candlewick with Cookie Monster as the main character, I asked them if I could review it. I'm delighted to share this fun, "helping brand new readers" book with you!

Cookie Monster's Busy Day
Iillustrator - Ernie Kwiat
Publisher - Candlewick Press
Ages - 4+

Favorite Features -
  • a helping brand new readers book - great first book to read with simple, short stories, simple sentences and words which repeat
  • book has four stories in it
  • children will be delighted to see their "friends" from Sesame Street
  • wonderful illustrations
  • simple stories
  • stories encourage children to identify body parts, colors, types of movement and getting ready for bed
  • each story has a page to help grandparents/parents know what the story's goals are for their grandchild/child
My grandson loved this book! I really like the way it provides four stories which new readers will be able to read! I also like how it encourages children to identify and learn new things and gives grandparents and parents lots to talk about with their grandchildren/children. As you talk about hands, feet, etc, talk with your grandchild about how God created them to have hands, feet, etc. Ask them how they most enjoy moving their hands and feet, what their favorite color is, and what their favorite part of getting ready for bed is. Enjoy this book - and helping your grandchild learn to read it!
