grandma's bookshelf - How Many Jelly Beans? - I'm Giving One Away!

When it comes to counting and being about to see and understand how a number relates to how many you have of something, numbers like one, two, three and even eight, nine and ten are easy to understand. But when you are talking about larger numbers like 100 or 500, 1000 or 5000 is much more challenging to grasp. This is until the book, How Many Jelly Beans? came along!

How Many Jelly Beans?
Author - Andrea Menotti
Illustrator - Yancey Labat
Publisher - Chronicle Kids
Ages - 4+

Favorite Features -
  • love the way the sister, Emma and her brother, Aiden, have to "one up" each other when it comes to how many jelly beans they would like - these two siblings certainly "act" like siblings!
  • love the way jelly beans are used to show how many each number is
  • love how the author/illustrator show children how to picture the very large numbers of jelly beans . . . for example, if you stacked up five thousand jelly beans, they'd be as tall as a ten story building!
  • I especially loved the way they showed a hundred thousand jelly beans by the colors/flavors Aiden would choose!
  • does a great job of showing how many one million is!
This is a very fun book for children and grandparents to enjoy together! While it is challenging to unfold the last page so you are able to see one million jelly beans - yes, one million of them! - it was impressive to see how much of my floor was covered by the representation of one million jelly beans! I also enjoyed how "Aiden" came to the conclusion one million jelly beans may be too many jelly beans! (Murphy the dog's response made me smile!) This is a fun and unique book for children and grandparents/parents to enjoy together!

I'm delighted to say, not only did Chronicle Kids send one book for me to review, but they are making another available for me to give away!
