It's Doughnut Day!!!!

Yes! Today, June 1st, is Doughnut Day!!! Since I LOVE doughnuts, I think Doughnut Day is an absolutely, incredibly, fabulous day to celebrate! :^) (Keep reading to find out about FREE doughnuts you may be able to enjoy today!) Of course, if you are like me and have no doughnuts at your house, you may have to make some, so I thought I'd share a recipe for doughnuts . . . one my grandma used to make . . . and one I may very well make today, too!

Ingredients -

  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • cooking oil for frying
Directions -
  • Stir together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine eggs, sugar and vanilla; beat till thick
  • combine milk and melted butter
  • add flour mixture and milk mixture alternately to egg mixture - beat just till blended after each addition
  • cover and chill two hours
  • on a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness - cut with cutter
  • fry in deep, hot oil about one minute per side or till golden, turning once with a slotted spoon
  • drain on paper toweling
  • cool
  • drizzle with glaze or shake in a bag with sugar and cinnamon or a bag of powdered sugar
  • Enjoy!
I used to make these for some children I babysat - and always used small Noah's Ark cookie cutters . . . they loved the animal-shaped doughnuts!

What could be better on Doughnut Day than FREE Doughnuts?!!!! Dunkin' Donuts is giving away a free doughnuts - with beverage purchase - and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is giving away a free doughnut - NO purchase necessary to celebrate Doughnut Day!!!! What a wonderful way to celebrate!!!! (Be sure to check with your local stores to see if they are participating) Thank you Mommy Entourage for the "heads-up" on Doughnut Day!

I LOVE all types of doughnuts, but my favorites are the plain donught with chocolate on top or the eclairs with pudding inside! :^) As I said, Doughnut Day is an Absolutely, Incredibly, Fabulous day to celebrate! What is your favorite type of doughnut?
