Water Safety with Speedo . . . & a Give-Away!

Summer, for many of us, means being in, around and on the water, so water safety is of utmost importance. I have a pool and my grandsons love to swim, so while I am happy they are able to enjoy the pool, their safety is my top priority. I live in West Michigan - not only is Lake Michigan just a "hop, skip and a jump" - about 30 miles - away, but there are inland lakes everywhere. Each year my heart breaks to hear of children who drown in a lake, pond or pool - I absolutely do NOT want my sweet, sweet Josiah or Caleb to be a child who drowns. We talk, often, about how they can never, never, NEVER to in ANY water with out their "floaties" on and an adult with them. They are too young to understand the danger which comes with water, but I am not.

So, when Speedo agreed to send some of their product for me to review - and give-away - I was delighted for the opportunity to talk about water safety! If you have a pool or live on a lake or other body of water and have not already established your "water safety policies", consider the following -
  • educate yourself on water safety. I found a wonderful website with a wealth of information on water safety for all ages of children. You'll find information to help you prevent drowning, pool safety and so much more. Check out Safe Kids USA and educate yourself.
  • Absolutely require children to have a flotation device on them and an adult with them whenever they are in - or playing near the water. Stick to this policy like glue.
  • Do not allow rough-housing or horse-play in the water
  • Be alert and pay attention
There are so many fun things for your grandchildren to enjoy in and on the water in the Summer . . . just be sure it is safe and then enjoy and create those wonderful memories!

As I mentioned, Speedo sent me three of their products to review - and an additional one to give away! First, for the youngest grandchildren their Fabric Baby Cruiser which is available in blue or pinkJ. I really love this for the following reasons - it provides a sturdy, safe place for babies to enjoy the water. It is rated at "swim level 1". As they say, this allows you to . . .

  • Enjoy pool playtime with your baby
  • Dual air chambers for added security.
  • Large ring with a smaller inner ring for stability
  • Mesh splash n' play area introduces babies to water.
  • Soft fabric seat increases comfort and mobility.
  • Quick-dry mesh bag for easy transporting.
My little Caleb will be one year old this month and he enjoys swimming in the pool in his baby cruiser! The Baby Cruiser is for babies 6 - 24 months and who weigh up to 33 pounds. Do keep in mind; while it is a sturdy, safe place for babies, you MUST have adult supervision at ALL times when a child is in the water in the Baby Cruiser.

They also sent their Kid's UV Neoprene Swim Vest for me to review. This vest is available in blue or pink and . . .

  • Great teaching tool for beginning to swim and building water confidence.
  • New form fitting sleek design promotes greater mobility.
  • Made of soft and durable neoprene.
  • Front zipper for easy on and off.
  • UV 50+ protection from sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays.
Josiah loves his swim vest because he can "kick his legs and paddle his arms" when he is in the pool! Depending on the size vest you get, it is for children ages 2 - 6, weighing 33-60 pounds. As with the Baby Cruiser, while this vest will support a child in the water, you MUST have adult supervision at ALL times when a child is in the water in their Swim Vest.

Speedo also sent me their Fabric Arm Bands. These bands are available in blue and . . .

  • Soft polyester material provides added comfort.
  • Dual chamber heavy duty inflatable arm band.
  • UV 50+ protection from sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays.
  • One size: ages 2-12 years / Max weight 110 lbs.
These Fabric Arm Bands allow children to grow in their swimming skills and confidence because while they will provide a level of flotation, children do need to learn to hold their heads out of the water and keep their bodies upright. As with the Baby Cruiser and Swim Vest,  while the Fabric Arm Bands will support a child in the water, you MUST have adult supervision at ALL times when a child is in the water in their Fabric Arm Bands.

I'm delighted to say Speedo sent me an extra set of Fabric Arm Bands to give-away!
