grandma's movie review - Dragons: Riders of Berk Parts 1 & 2

In 2010 we were all delighted with the release of the movie, How to Train Your Dragon. Not only was the animation top notch, but the story was extremely well written and one which pulled you in from the start and kept you enjoying every moment. When it ended, I hoped for a sequel! While we have to wait another year for How to Train Your Dragon 2, we can enjoy Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 1 and Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 2 in the meantime - and enjoy them is something we absolutely will do!!!

As DreamWorks says, "Loaded with exciting bonus content for the whole family to enjoy, disc one contains episodes 1-11 and disc two features episodes 12-20. Based on the DreamWorks Animation Academy Award®-nominated hit movie How to Train Your Dragon, the series features original voice talent from the film including Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Zack Pearlman, and more."

Typically, "cartoons" based on movies are not anywhere near the quality of the original when it comes to animation, story and acting. This however; is absolutely NOT the case with Dragons: Riders of Berk Parts 1 & 2! DreamWorks/Fox sent me both DVDs for free for review and I am delighted to tell you, in my honest opinion, these are definite "winners"; DVDs which will be enjoyed by everyone in your family!

My grandsons were at my house yesterday when Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 1 and Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 2 arrived and they loved them! My daughter and daughter-in-law watched with us - and laughed throughout them, just as I did! I love how the stories encourage conversations about making right choices, caring about others and doing what you can to help others. Hiccup steps up on more than one occasion and takes responsibility for the choices he makes - this is the kind of story I want my grandsons to watch!

And as if being filled with great stories isn't enough, DreamWorks included a DVD with games you and your grandchildren can play and enjoy as well! My grandson Josiah was very excited to try the games and enjoyed making his own viking and dragon . . . which he named both, Josiah! :-)

For even more fun, DreamWorks/Fox is making available a free DreamWorks Animation Augmented Reality app - just click on the link and bring Hiccup and Toothless to life!

So . . . if you are looking for a new DVD to enjoy with your grandchildren, definitely consider Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 1 and Dragons: Riders of Berk - Part 2! Enjoy!
