How Will You Be Known & Remembered?

How do you want to be known . . . and remembered? I (Lynda) want my grandsons to remember I always greeted them with a smile, hug and "I love you!". I want them to remember their grandma was someone who had real joy.

Live on purpose. Use your years well and focus on what matters the most - hand down the faith and do it with joy! Enjoy the days before you and be quick to share your love, joy and faith with your grandchildren. It matters now, and in the future.

Why 43% Matters

Do you know why the percentage, 43% matters? It truly matters, because according to the Barna Group, 43% of people make the decision to receive God's gift of grace and forgiveness by placing their trust in Jesus before the age of 13. Yes, before the age of 13.

This "statistic" matters and it shows how grandparents know something parents often do not. This is the truth about how very, very quickly our sweet, little grandchildren are growing up. We remember how fast our children grew up. It may not have felt like it at the time . . . the day-in-day-out work of raising children does make it seem like it is moving along so very slowly . . . will they ever be potty-trained???!!!

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway on May 26, 2018 - The Explorers: The Reckless Rescue

I was recently invited to review a new book - the second in a series where I was able to review the first book, so it seemed to make sense to review the second book as well and announce a giveaway as well!

Help Our Grandchildren Be Thankful & Show Appreciation

There are many important messages for us to help our grandchildren learn; one such important message is for them to be people who appreciate others and are quick to show it. We certainly want our grandchildren to have thankful hearts and there are two ways for us to help them with this. . . . See more at this link.

A Prayer for Those Who Wander From God

Do you have a son, daughter, son/daughter-in-law or grandchildren who are wandering from God? If so, you know grief and so I'm sharing Jeremiah 24:5-7 with you to encourage you today!

I LOVE these verses! What wonderful promises! Check this link to see what God says He will do . . .

A Prayer for Your Grandchildren, Because God is Bigger!

Are there storms on your grandchildren’s horizons, or are they already caught in a torrential downpour? If so, what is the reality of their storms?
• Are they one step behind the other students in their class?
• Are they pushed to excel?
• Are they having trouble making friends?
• Are they addicted to video games?
• Are they navigating two homes, two schedules and two set of rules, all in the wake of divorce?
There is power in Jesus’ name. He is, “able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). With that in mind, let us pray:

Summer Fun with Bubbles!

This summer I am a very blessed grandma in how my grandsons
will be spending a lot of time at my house - at least two days a week while their parents are at work and of course our regular weekend sleepovers - every other Friday and every other Saturday! As I said, I am a very blessed grandma!

So, we are making our yard a place of fun for the summer! The boys and their dad will be building a tree house in our enormous maple tree, they will be building an obstacle course in our yard and doing something fun with the hideout in the woods at the back of our yard. Yes, our yard will be a place of fun and activity this summer for sure!

I'm also planning to keep a container of bubbles available for the boys - I found this recipe on Pinterest and thought I'd share it with you!

What does your summer look like this year?

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway on May 21, 2018 - Grandma Photo Frame

I was recently invited by GiftsForYouNow to participate in a special review of their lovely "grandma" photo frame - it arrived a couple days ago, so today I'm very happy to let you know about it and announce a giveaway as well!

Be the Precious Gem to Your Family

Oh yes, we grandmas (and grandpas, too) are a precious, valuable gem; people of great value to our families . . . or at least we have the potential to be this for them. But, what does it look like for us to be this "precious gem"? Let's look at these verses for some insight . . .

Be a Grandma with Joy & Laugh Lines!

A few months ago my grandsons and I were talking about the Fruit of the Spirit when my nine-year old grandson said he thinks of his poppa and I when he thinks of the word "joy"; my six and four year old grandsons agreed! This is one of the most wonderful things anyone has ever said about me!

While we certainly want our lives to reflect the love of God, reflecting the joy is extremely important. And, when we are people who show joy; who are quick to smile and laugh, who consistently greet our grandchildren with a smile on our face and a twinkle in our eyes, our grandchildren will be pointed to God. Why wouldn't they want a life of joy? And, why wouldn't we want our grandchildren to not just see us as people who live joy, but to remember us as such! . . .

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway - Reed Diffuser Sweet Nothings

I was recently sent a box of fun from Yankee Candle. In this box was one of their Yankee Candle Reed Diffuser, Sweet Nothings. Today I'm going to tell you about this - and announce a giveaway for one as well!

Everything is Possible for God & A Prayer for Those We Love

Pray. It is one of the single-most important things for us to do for the grandchildren God has given to us. It is one of the single-most powerful things we are able to do as well as we approach our loving God who wants us to bring our concerns and joys to Him. He promises to hear. He promises to listen. He promises to answer. And God ALWAYS keeps His promises!

As a mom and grandma, there isn't anything more important to me than for my son, daughter, daughter-in-law and grandsons to grow to be people who know and love Jesus. This world is at times a scary place; it seems evil is laughed at, discounted and accepted like it has not been before . . . at least in my lifetime. As I think about the things I want to pray for those I love, I think about the things Jesus prayed for His disciples, and for all of us, as recorded in John 17.

Jesus prayed His disciples would be protected by the power of God's name, so none of them would be lost. He did not ask God to take them out of the world, but to protect them from the evil one, so they - and we - will have unity and the world will believe.

I believe there is good reason to pray these same things for my family and others as well . . .

Speak the Truth

The world in which we live is filled with blessings from God all around us - our families, friends, the beautiful Earth on which we live, the gifts of a bountiful harvest and clear, clean water - this list could, and does, go on and on. God is real and His great love for us is obvious everywhere we look. This is the truth.

But, this world also is filled with those things which have the potential to sidetrack and derail our faith, and the faith of those we love. All it takes is a quick look at the culture in which we live to see this is true. It is all too easy to become caught up in things which push us away from God. There are many in this world who say there is no God and we are far too easily deceived into believing difficult times in our lives means God does not love us. . . . https://grandmaswithheart.blogspot.com/2018/04/speak-truth.html#more

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway - Folkmanis Woodland Animal Finger Puppet Set

From time-to-time I am able to receive a box of fun from Folkmanis Puppets - a box filled with the most amazing, and fun, puppets! Recently, one such box arrived at my house, so today I'm happy to let you know about a few of the puppets in the box - and a giveaway as well!

A "Picture" of God's Love

As grandmas, of course, we love our grandchildren unconditionally. As grandmas, we tend to be our grandchildren's biggest "cheerleaders". As grandmas, when we say; "I love you" to our grandchildren, it is not really a surprise, because they hear it from us - and experience it from us . . . often!

But these things are very positive things, because when our grandchildren experience how we never turn them away and are never too busy for them, they will better understand - and believe - the same is true about God . . . on an even bigger scale! Make time for your grandchildren today and connect with them in person or through tech. Tell them about how God is never too busy for them - it matters!  #grandmas #handingdownthefaith #itmatterswhatwedo #grandparentingonpurpose

God is Faithful!

It is so very important for us to help our grandchildren learn to see God's "fingerprints" in their lives. Listen to this clip from when Lynda Freeman spoke for the Legacy Coalition in the closing general session at the Legacy Grandparenting Conference a few years ago and how she encourages us to help our grandchildren see how God was faithful yesterday, He is faithful today, so they will be able to believe he will be faithful tomorrow.

Who Are You? Please Take Our Poll!

Who are you? Grandparents today are young and tend to be active. We also want to be engaged with and involved in the lives of our grandchildren. While there are interesting stats out there about who we are, I thought it would be fun to get a "snapshot" of who we are! So, on the Grandmas with Heart blog, on the right side of the page, you will find a simple poll about Grandparents Today. Please answer - feel free to check as many boxes as apply to you; it will be fun to see how we compare with the national "stats"!

So . . . who are you and what do you do???

Blessings from the Hand of God

I love a feature on my facebook called "On this Day", because each
morning when I look at it, I am reminded of the many blessings with which God has showered my life by the adorable things my grandsons said and did when they were younger. For example, "On this Day" when my oldest grandson was just three years old, he asked me to call him, "Super, Snazzy, Mighty Josiah", not just "Josiah"! Then he proceeded to "save" me from a "scary" bus which was trying to "suck me into it forever"! What would I ever have done without "Super, Snazzy, Mighty Josiah"?!!! . . .
And we would enjoy the opportunity to share in your blessings, too! Please share in the comment area about a time when your grandblessings brightened your day!    #grandmas #handingdownthefaith #itmatterswhatwedo #grandparentingonpurpose

Grandparent on Purpose - It Matters!

As grandparents we know something important which parents do not know. We know children grow up so very fast. At the time when we were "knee-deep" in potty-training, getting children to school and the day-in-day-out busyness of life with children, it did not seem like they were growing up so very fast. In fact, there were times we may have wondered if they were ever going to grow up.

But, looking back we know how vary fast they actually grew up. We are now able to see those years flew by. And, added to this we know there are likely more days behind us than there are in front of us - we are not getting any younger. Our grandchildren are growing up and we are getting older, so it truly matters for us to make the most of the time we have with our grandchildren. We need to grandparent on purpose.

As the weekend is upon us, let's make time to connect with our grandchildren on purpose - no matter their age or location. Clearly, if they live near it is easier to do this, but even if they live far with facetime, email and even just a phone we are able to connect. Consider the following ideas . . .

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway - Riehel's Select Popcorn

Yesterday I wrote about a new popcorn popper Cuisinart sent me for review, so today I want to write about an amazing popcorn I just received for review - and some I'm giving away in our Spring Gift Giveaways!

God's Great Promise & a Prayer

(Since I now have the Grandmas with Heart blog available, I will not duplicate entire posts here on grandma's cookie jar. Instead each day I'll post a short clip from the day's post on Grandma's with Heart along with the link, so you will be able to find and read the full post.)

When we first became parents, if we were people who knew, loved and followed God, we certainly wanted this for our children as well. As they grew up, we did what we knew to do to point them to Jesus and rejoiced as they put their trust in Him. When they married, we experienced the joy of watching them start to build their home on the firm foundation of God and His Word.

Cuisinart Classic-Style Popcorn Maker

This past Saturday my husband, grandsons and I were playing Monopoly when a big box arrived at our door; inside was the Cuisinart Classic-Style Popcorn Maker (which Cuisinart sent to me for review)! My grandsons were quite surprised and excited to see what was in the big box and of course, once they saw it we had to make some popcorn!

I have to say, we all love the Cuisinart Classic-Style Popcorn Maker and so today I am very happy to let you know all about this wonderful popcorn popper and what I think of it!

crafting with grandma - Nebula in a Bottle

Summer vacation is just two months away, so if you like to involve your grandchildren in fun projects, take a look at this idea I found on Pinterest this morning!

Grandmas with Heart Blog - Check Out the Resources!

I am happy to say Grandmas with Heart now has an actual blog! On this blog we will be able to share more resources; something which was more challenging to do on just a facebook page, which we will keep, but will post each day on this blog information and ideas to encourage, engage, equip and empower you as you hand down the faith to the children you love.

Spring Gift Review & Giveaway - Hipsy Headbands

Last Fall I shared with you about a product which was "new" to me - headbands. I said I knew they had been around for a long time, but I never used them, because each time I tried them - throughout my life - they "popped" off the back of my head. I was pretty sure I must have an oddly shaped head or something!

However; I learned about a company making the most amazing variety and designs when it came to headbands and just had to try them. Happily, their product does not "pop" off the back of my head, so I wrote about Hipsy.com and had a fun giveaway as well.

I'm happy to say today they sent me a couple more of their wonderful headbands and so I'm writing about them again today - and announcing another fun giveaway and a special code you will be able to use anytime . . . no expiration, to save 50%!

Be Sure Your Grandchildren Know they are Lovable!

I am very intentional when it comes to being sure my grandchildren KNOW I love them. We talk about it. We show it with our actions. I email and snail-mail them notes where I always say I love them. We even sing about it! I pay attention to the things in which they are interested and listen when they have something they want to tell me.

God Cares!

I find it so incredibly encouraging to know not only does God care about the big and little things in my life, but, He cares about the people who matter to me! Take time today to thank God for His great love and care and be sure to let your grandchildren know how great God's love and care for them truly is!  #grandmas #handingdownthefaith#itmatterswhatwedo #grandparentingonpurpose

Faith

Along with praying for our grandchildren to put their faith in Jesus, pray once they do, they will grow in their faith and walk with Jesus. Pray with eyes of faith they will see the invisible, believe the unbelievable and receive the impossible; so they are able to walk closely with Jesus throughout their lives and will hand down the faith to their children and grandchildren.  #grandmas #handingdownthefaith #itmatterswhatwedo#grandparentingonpurpose  (This post is from the Grandmas with Heart facebook page - please check it out and like, follow and share with the people you know.)

Hugs are Good for You!

Hugs are good for our grandchildren and for us, so if you live near your grandchildren, make time to visit and hand out some of those good-for-you hugs!

If you do not live near them, consider the following ideas . . . give a "virtual hug" by making a call with facetime. Tell your grandchildren to wrap their arms around themselves and then, "send" the hug!

Spring Gift Reviews & Giveaway - Fragrance Spheres from Yankee Candle

I recently received a box of fun from Yankee Candle, filled with items to review - and some for me to give away as well! So, today I'm happy to let you know about a relatively new item in their flameless scents line . . . Fragrance Spheres . . . and announce a giveaway as well.

Grandma on Purpose!

Children and children's children are blessings from God; being able to live long enough to see and know them is an even bigger blessing. I (Lynda) have been praying for a young mother from my church who has an aggressive cancer. This mother has five young children; I am praying she will know the joy of being a grandmother.

I have another friend who just died unexpectedly; she was a mother and grandmother who was particularly close with her eleven year old grandson. I'm praying especially for him as he moves forward without his grandmother.

Today, more so than most days, I'm feeling blessed and thankful for my children and children's children. I'm so thankful to know them and the joy of handing down the faith to them. None of us know how many days we will have on this Earth - let's grandma on purpose and make the most of the time we have by handing down the faith to our children and children's children.  #grandmas #handingdownthefaith#itmatterswhatwedo #grandparentingonpurpose (This post is from the Grandmas with Heart facebook page - please check it out and like, follow and share with the people you know.)

Invest in the Welfare of the New Generation

Oh yes, as parents we care about what happens with our sons and daughters (and in-laws, too) and as grandparents we care about what happens with our grandchildren. God made it this way and He planned for this to be the primary way our faith is handed down to the generations who follow us.

Spring Gift Reviews & Giveaway - A Couch for Llama

Okay, they say, "the third time is a charm", so we will try to give this wonderful book away one more time! (I held a giveaway and a second chance giveaway, but both times the winners never claimed the book). So, here goes . . . one more time!

If you have been reading grandma's cookie jar for very long, you know from time to time I'm invited to review new books from several publishers. Today I'm extremely happy once again to let you know about one of these new books - and announce a giveaway for one as well!

I do have to say, of all the books I've reviewed in the past year - and there have been many which I liked, a lot - this is my very, most favorite! This is a book which I have to say; if you do not win the one I'm giving away, please get one! You - and the littles in your life - will be so glad you did!

A Prayer for You & Those You Love

There are many things we need to be talking with God about in regards to the people we love and know; these are certainly great places to begin. As you go through this week, consider making this your prayer -

He is Alive!

This is the truth upon which we build our faith - Jesus is not still in a tomb; He rose, just as He said He would do! Because of this, we are able to receive God's grace and His forgiveness for our sins.

So, today, whether you spend time with family or not, take time to thank Jesus for His amazing gift and share the Good News with those you love!

Happy Resurrection Sunday - He is alive!  #grandmas#handingdownthefaith #itmatterswhatwedo #grandparentingonpurpose
