2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Around the World in 80 Puzzles

My grandsons enjoy a challenging puzzle, so when I saw, Around the World in 80 Puzzles on the list of books from which I was able to choose a few to review from Candlewick Press, I knew I had to ask for it. Now I've had the opportunity to review it, I am ever so glad I did; and even more so they sent it for my review.

You Are Making a Difference

This morning on my other blog - Grandmas with Heart - I posted about how if you are handing down the faith to your children/grandchildren, you are making a difference! So, in light of the book review I posted for Reagandoodle & Little Buddy, I thought I'd share this post with you as well.

Today, I'm very happy to let you know about the book and invite you to consider if you are a person who could foster a child from your community.

Trust God

What impossible situations are you depending upon God for today? Do you have a family member who is not walking with God? Are you, or someone you love facing a health crisis? Do you need a job? A home? A repaired relationship with family?

We all have "impossible" situations in our lives; things which truly are impossible for us. But the wonderful news is nothing is impossible for God.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - DC Comics: Secret Hero Society Detention of Doom

Around this grandma's house the Marvel Universe is at the top of my grandson's favorites list, but I do believe, while they are loyal Marvel Universe fans, they will very much enjoy the book Scholastic sent me to review.

Be Alert! Watch for What God Does

If you are like me you have many things which fill your days - time spent growing in our walk with God, time with family, things to keep us busy at home, possibly a job, volunteering at church and the list goes on. And, since the Holiday Season is nearly upon us and there are less than two months until Christmas, we are likely to become even more busy. While we may be busy, it is essential for us to make time for those things which matter the most - such as praying, growing in our own walk with God and in handing down the faith.

Check this link for the rest of this post.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas

I have enjoyed reading all my life and I believe books are wonderful things. But I know it may be more challenging to find books young boys will read, than it is to find books young girls will read. Since my grandchildren are all boys, I have had an interest in books which may interest boys.

Today I'm very happy to have the opportunity to review another book from graphix/Scholastic - one I'm quite sure my grandsons will enjoy!

October 31st - An Opportunity to Share the Love of Jesus! Don't Waste It!

Okay, yesterday I wrote about the "Dilemma of Halloween" and how we need to be wise. I wrote about how it gives us the opportunity to have a conversation with our grandchildren about who Jesus is and why the focus on evil and gore at Halloween is not something of which we want to be part. But, having said this, I do believe Halloween does offer us an unique opportunity to share the love of Jesus with our neighbors and all the children who knock on our doors on October 31st.  You will find my full post at this link.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - HOLY ROAR

The Halloween Dilemma . . .

Do you wonder how to respond to Halloween? Do you wonder how it may impact your children and grandchildren and the best way for you to respond? If so, take a look at the post I put up this morning on my other blog - Grandmas with Heart. You will find it at this link.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - If You're Groovy and You Know It, Hug a Friend

I have long been a big "fan" of picture books. If you are able to combine a fun story with colorful illustrations, well, I am likely to like the book. I do not believe it is ever truly possible to outgrow an excellent picture book - just because the book was written for children ages three to five, it does not mean a grandma will not also enjoy the book. In fact, I am fully convinced all picture books should include "grandmas" when it lists the ages for whom the book is written!

With all of this in mind, when I had the opportunity to select a few books from Scholastic to review and include in this year's Christmas Gift Review, I just had to ask for the book I'm reviewing today . . . and I am SO happy they sent it to me!

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Mac Undercover - Mac B. Kid Spy

A few days ago I posted about my "Grandma's Count-Down-to-Christmas Gifts" and how this year I'm going to give my grandsons books when they come to my house between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some of the books will be puzzle books, some will be picture books and some will be fun chapter books which we will read together - even though two of my three grandsons are able to read for themselves.

Today I'm very happy to share with you my review of a fun chapter book sent to me by Scholastic Books - and announce a giveaway for one as well!

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - nalgene Grip-N-Gulp Blue Seahorse

Now days people seem to be more aware of how beneficial it is for us to drink water throughout the day and are teaching this to our children and grandchildren. Many schools encourage children to bring their own water bottle with them to school, so they are able to drink water all day while at school.
So, I thought it would be fun to review a water bottle for children and asked nalgene if they might send one or two for me to review . . . I'm happy to say they did, so today I'm sharing my opinion of the two they sent - and announcing a giveaway for one of them!

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - The Assassination of Brangwain Spurge

I intended to post this review yesterday, so today I'll share two of my Christmas Gift Reviews - and Giveaways! First another unique book from Candlewick Press - The Assassination of Brangwain Spurge.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Where's Waldo? The Spectacular Spotlight Search

With Christmas just a touch over two months away, I'm very happy to share with you today an idea and a review of one of the most fun books you could give to pretty much anyone five and older on your gift list. First, the idea. I typically have "count-down to Christmas gifts" which I give my grandsons between Thanksgiving and Christmas when they are at my house. When they were younger, these gifts were things like Matchbox cars, fun rocks, etc - simple, small things just for the fun of it.

This year I'm giving the boys a fun book for each of their "count-down to Christmas gifts", but it will be one book for the three of them to share each time. While this may not sound like a very great gift, the books will be fun stories or puzzle books - books they all are likely to enjoy. I will also add a fun rock and/or candy . . . because I'm grandma!

So, now for the book review . . . and yes, I get to give one away, too!

TreeRunner - Not Just for Families with Young Children

Aerial Adventure Parks are becoming popular and this past summer I was given the opportunity for my son, daughter-in-law and grandsons to visit TreeRunner Adventure Park here in Grand Rapids, MI. They LOVED the time they spent there. If you are wondering if these parks are a safe option for the children you love, I'm happy to let you know they are, and they are a fun and unique place where you are able to spend time and build amazing memories with the children you love.

As much fun as you will have with your younger grandchildren/children, let me assure you, TreeRunner is not just for children and families. And, they are not just for summertime fun. When Fall arrives and the leaves change color, TreeRunner is a terrific place to go for some outdoor fun and a viewpoint on the changing colors of the leaves which you do not ordinarily have the opportunity to experience! Today I'm happy to share with you the experience of my adult daughter when she visited TreeRunner with some friends.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Douglas, You're a Genius!

My grandsons love dogs (in particular Huskies). They also love funny stories. If a book is successfully able to combine the two, I know it is a book they will love - whether the dog is a Husky or not.

I was recently invited by Random House Children's Books to review a new release which does this, and does it extremely well! Today I am very happy to share with you my review of, Douglas, You're a Genius!.

It is Family History Month

October is Family History Month, so it is a great time to gather your family stories and share them with your grandchildren. If you have an ancestor who was a famous author, came to the USA on the Mayflower, was a Native American, knighted in England or a member of royalty - tell your grandchildren. If you have an ancestor who was struck by lightening, survived a tornado or who took you fishing and sang funny songs - tell your grandchildren.

GSI Outdoors - Microlite 500 Flip, Vacuum Bottle Review

I thought I'd share an interesting stat with you today. Did you know in the USA we used about 50 billion plastic water bottles last year? Did you know on average 250 coffee drinks are sold each day at coffee drive-through businesses in the USA?

If you are a person who drinks water and coffee and who buys these each day, week, month, just think about all the bottles and cups you are throwing away. Now, this post is NOT about recycling. I want to ask you to consider a different approach to your water and coffee consumption.

Consider investing in a quality cup which you will be able to use day-after-day and fill with water and coffee at home. Not only will you be able to say you are not contributing to the tossing of plastic bottles and cups, but you will save a significant amount of money - far, far beyond what you spend to get a nice cup.

My husband and I did this a few years ago and this works very well for us. So, today I'm happy to let you know about one such excellent cup you might consider getting to use for your water and/or coffee each day.

GSI Outdoors makes a number of excellent products, but one I particularly like is their new Microlite 500 Flip which they sent to me for review.

A Prayer for the Storms We Face

With hurricane Michael approaching the Florida Panhandle, I thought I'd share with you the post I put this morning on Grandmas with Heart -

On this day when we may be facing storms, I thought I'd share another wonderful, encouraging, powerful, true verse from the Bible and make it into a simple Scripture prayer which you may use as you face the storms which come your way - and into the lives of those you know and love. As the physical storm rages around you and/or those you love and/or the storms of life batter you physically and emotionally, please hold to the truth of God's Word.

You'll find the full post at this link.

God's Grace is the Reason for Everything

This morning I want to share with you the post I put on my other blog - Grandmas with Heart. Don't you just love this quote! It is so true! God has blessed me with His grace; His amazing, great grace. My life is filled with His joy and peace, because of His gift of grace.

I had nothing to give, or offer for my own forgiveness, but God's amazing, unending love sought me out and then He lavished His grace on me. I know this. I am so thankful for this.

You will find my full post at this link. Please check it out and share it with the people you know.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Ground Saigon Cinnamon from The Spice House

For my birthday, a few months ago, my sister gave me a box of amazing herbs and spices from The Spice House. Ever since I've been able to add special touches to the foods I prepare and have them turn out even better; leaving me quite "sold" on The Spice House!

So, recently I asked them if they might be willing to send a spice for review and make another available for giveaway - they said yes! Which means today I'm very happy to let you know about their wonderful Saigon Cinnamon!

Worship the Lord - He is Faithful

In the  Grandmother's Bible when you read I Chronicles 16:8-15 -
"Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done. Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts. Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice. Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced, you his servants, the descendants of Israel, his chosen ones, the children of Jacob. He is the LORD our God; his judgments are in all the earth. He remembers his covenant forever, the promise he made, for a thousand generations,"
you will find these verses are followed by a prayer -

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - No Frogs in School

When I was a child, my mother always gave me - and my siblings - books for Christmas and birthdays. When I became a mom, I always gave my children books for Christmas and their birthdays, so I suppose it is just a natural extension for me to continue to do this with my grandchildren, now I'm a grandma.

Recently I spent some time looking through the Sterling Children's Books new release catalog and one book in particular caught my attention - No Frogs in School. It could be it caught my attention, because the title sounds like it goes with a fun story. It could be the illustrations which go with the title caught my attention. It could be, because it reminded me of the day I brought a snake to school - and scared the captain of the football team! It could be for all these reasons, but most likely the last one!

At any rate, I asked my contact at Sterling Children's Books if it was available for review and she said it was - and for giveaway as well. So today I'm very happy to let you know about this fun book.

The Spice House & Eden's Garden

I have been writing grandma's cookie jar for seven years - since May of 2011. I do not receive payment for writing this blog - I write it to share, what I hope, is useful, valuable and fun information to help grandmas - and grandpas/parents - hand down the faith and build strong relationships with the children they love. From time-to-time I write a review of a product - and often hold a giveaway as well; when I do this, I typically am able to keep the item I review, but I am not paid for reviewing anything.

Buy Essential OilsI have recently learned more about being an "affiliate" site. Other than linking items I review to Amazon, I have previously not considered being an "affiliate", because to do so I have to believe in the product/company and they have to be something I would buy.

2018 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - Box of Red Heart Yarn

In years past I began my Christmas Gift Review on October 1st, posting reviews throughout the month of October and then holding giveaways throughout the month of November. This year while I am still posting Christmas Gift Reviews in October, and giveaways in November, my review and giveaways are smaller as it is becoming more challenging to receive items for review (there are far more people out there asking for review products). But, I still have some and am happy to share my first review and giveaway with you today - Red Heart Yarn.

Each year I crochet hats for my grandsons. In years past I crocheted Agent Perry the Platyapus hats, Minion hats, Crazy Minion hats, Three-eyed, Spotted Alien hats, One-eyed Monster hats, hat which looked like a Shark was eating your head and hats with Beards to mention a few. Not particularly boring hats by any interpretation! But, this year my oldest grandson said he would like just a regular hat. Hmmm . . . after all these "non-regular" hats, I'm not sure if I can make a "regular hat"!

Well, I'm sure I'll come up with something - I'm leaning towards just a hat with ear-flaps . . . but, I think I'll make a fun scarf to go with the "regular" hat!

Once again this year, Red Heart Yarn sent me a box of their new yarns to review - and so I would be able to give some of them away! I know I'll be making scarves with several of these beautiful new yarns! First, let me share with you the yarn which will be in the giveaway box this year . . .

Even Superheroes Make Mistakes

My grandsons are really into superheroes - especially Marvel superheroes, as are many children. So, when I saw Sterling Children's Books had a new superhero book out, I checked to see if it was available for review. It was, so today I'm happy to share my review with you.
