Leap Year Fun

Once every four years we have Leap Year with one extra day in the month of February . . . and this coming Saturday is the day! So . . . what could you do to have fun with Leap Year with your grandchildren? Well . . . consider the following . . .

  • Watch Larry's Leapin' Leap Year to help your grandchildren understand what Leap Year is and why we have it every four years!
  • Watch the new Veggie Short - Lenny and the Lost Birthday and talk with them about how Lenny's mom encouraged him with, "But this is the day the Lord has made. You're special to me and you'll be okay. Tomorrow will dawn and I'll love you still. Things will get better, I promise they will! When your days been a mess and you feel it  intensely, don't forget Whose you are and Who loves you immensely! God made you His child and you're treasured as such. You're precious, you're treasured, He loves you so much! And this is the day the Lord has made. You're special to Him, you'll be okay! Tomorrow will dawn and He'll love you still! Things will get better, I promise they will!" Ask them how knowing they are precious and treasured and special to God will help them get through days which feel like a "mess".
  • Talk with your grandchildren about creatures which "leap" - frogs, kangaroos, grasshoppers, dolphins, rabbits/bunnies, salmon, cats and of  course, people - then make frogs out of folded paper and hide the frogs around the house so your grandchildren may go find their "leaping" friends
  • Have a "leaping" contest and see how far each grandchild is able to "leap/jump".
  • Talk with your grandchildren about something special they may do with their "extra" day this year, then help them bake cookies or draw pictures to take to a shut-in or to their pastor and spend time with them praying their family and friends will come to know and walk with God more in the coming year.
These are just a few ideas . . . what will you do to have fun with your grandchildren on Leap Year?
