just for fun - Today is Fun About Names Day

When we had our children my husband and I named them Tiffany and David. It can be fun to think about the meaning behind the names we have or have given to our children and the names of our grandchildren as well. Especially on a day such as today . . . Fun About Names Day. I looked up some fun "names" facts on-line and am happy to share them with you today. Did you know . . .
  • "Jake the Jailbird" is the name of the guy in jail on a Monopoly board.
  • The police officer in the opposite corner on the Monopoly board is "Officer Edgar Mallory."
  • According to Baum Family legend, the name for Oz in the "Wizard of Oz" was thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence "Oz."
  • Dandelion was called "lion’s tooth" in Britain. The French translation is "dent de lion," adapted by Americans as "dandelion."
  • The piggy bank got its name from the clay called "pygg" used to make jars in which people stored money.
  • In Disney's "Fantasia", the Sorcerer's name is "Yensid." (Disney backwards.)
  • Only two states' names begin with double consonants: Florida and Rhode Island.
  • The names of all the continents end with the same letter that they start with, e.g. Asia, Europe.
Which fun fact is the most interesting or surprising to you? I thought several were, but if I had to pick one I guess I'd pick the one about the Dandelion!

So, on this day where we pause to think about names, I thought along with a few fun name facts, it would be fun to find the meaning of my name (and the names of my family) and found a great site for doing so. (You'll find it at this link.)
  • My name - Lynda means; beautiful
  • My husband and son - David means; beloved
  • My daughter - Tiffany means; appearance of God
  • My daughter-in-law - Jackie means; may God protect
  • My grandson - Josiah means; Yahweh supports
  • My grandson - Caleb means; all of his heart
  • My grandsons - Shane means; Yahweh is gracious
All great names! So, what about you? What does your name mean?
