Today is National South Dakota Day

South Dakota was the 40th state to enter the union and today is National South Dakota Day, so of course we will look at some interesting facts about this State and some of their silly laws - did you know . . . 

  • In Huron County, it is illegal to grow sunflowers over eight inches in height on any public or private land.
  • It is illegal to try to convince a pacifist to renounce his beliefs by threatening to arm-wrestle him.
  • If you fall asleep in a cheese factory, you’re breaking the law.

    • South Dakota is one of the larger states in America, but it’s also the 5th least populated.
    • Most visitors come to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, and Wind Cave.
    • The best things that came out of South Dakota are Bob Barker, host of “The Price is Right,” and Sue, the lesser-known but equally important Tyrannosaurus rex — the best preserved and most complete T-rex found.
    • South Dakota hosts the Mashed Potato Wrestling Contest.
