- Picnic in a local park - my grands LOVE going to the park, so taking a picnic lunch to the park would be a great "hit" with them!
- Visit a fire department - my husband used to be a fire fighter so taking the grands to a fire department would be a great idea for Poppa to do, for sure!
- Take a nature walk.. take along a journal, let the kids bring cameras, then go home, identify everything you photographed, create a nature book. That's a whole another day's activities (paper, photos, glue, scissors, notebook) this is especially good saved for a rainy day. (I LOVE this idea!)
- Take an "Alphabet tour"... again camera(s) in hand, journals - letter guides for younger kids - drive to town/city - begin with the letter a (Apple street) b (building) c (colosseum) d(dairy queen) e(eatery) you get the drift - when you are done - each child has a personal and creative alphabet memory book. (I LOVE this idea, too!)
- Go on a scavenger hunt - when they were little, my grands LOVED to play hide-and-seek! On a rainy day, have your scavenger hunt inside for rainy day fun!
- Make and blow bubbles. What child doesn't love to do this?!!!
- Make an obstacle course out of your back yard and have races. We have a large yard, so this could be a great activity - especially if we involved daddy and poppa!
- Set up hot wheels races in the driveway. See which of their cars is awarded 'the fastest" - have them make a trophy to give to the winning car - then next time - the new winning car gets the trophy. Again, this could be a great idea - especially if we involved daddy and poppa!
- Check out local VBS offerings - a lot of time you can volunteer while your kids attend. I'm a big fan of VBS, so this is an idea I LOVE!
- Make a Windchime. Have your grandchildren make an extra windchime to give to an elderly neighbor or shut in!
And, there are 90 more ideas on this blog, so check them out and get ready for some "free fun" with your grandchildren this Summer!
