Summer Book Review - Yeti Is NOT Ready for School

I am very happy to share with you some wonderful books for Summer (and any time) reading with the children you love. This first book, Yeti Is NOTReady for School, is from Random House Books for Young Readers. Now, I have to say, I lived for several years in one of the most beautiful places on the face of the Earth - Northern California - the true North at the top of the valley which runs the length of California. There are mountains on three sides - and when I say, "mountains", I mean MOUNTAINS! Mt. Shasta to the North is over 14 thousand feet tall!

At any rate, when we went up in the mountains all you could see for as far as you could see was mountains, trees, more mountains, and more trees. There are people in these mountains who are sure there are Yeti, or Big Foots, or Sasquatches - whatever you want to call them. I do think it is possible - there are areas in these mountains where people have never been and if these creatures are real and shy, well, they could be there.

So, back to this wonderful new book - Yeti Is NOT Ready for School, written and illustrated by Leigh Ann Carter - I highly recommend this book, especially if a child you love is getting ready to start school this coming Fall.

Favorite Features -

  • I love how the author put the feelings many young children experience into a fun character - Yeti!
  • I love all the interesting characters which fill the pages - of course Yeti, but also a purple unicorn, a vampire child, and a ghost child - don't worry, they are not at all scary!
  • The illustrations are colorful and fun - absolutely add to the story.
  • Yeti Is NOT Ready for School addresses how a child may feel about going to school for the first time and gives great ideas about how to overcome their fears.

Random House Books for Young Readers says, "First day of school jitters? Yeti knows all about that! She's not ready for her first day of school either. This colorful picture book gently reminds readers it’s normal to be nervous when we try new things.

It's almost the first day of monster school, but Yeti is NOT ready. Even though she has practiced her stomp, perfected her growl, and filed her fangs. . . her stomach is still full of fire-breathing moths! Can Yeti survive her first day? Or will she find a way to stay home instead?

With a gentle reminder from dad that Yeti may not be the only nervous new student, Yeti Is NOT Ready for School is the perfect read to help assuage pre-first day anxieties."

I LOVE Yeti Is NOT Ready for School, the story, the colorful and fun illustrations, and how it opens up opportunities for real and important conversations with the children you love all combine for a book which is sure to become a favorite!
