Have you been baking cookies for National Cookie Month? It is a great time to gather your grandchildren and get them elbow-deep in flour, butter, sugar, and busy making cookies . . . and of course "snatching" cookie dough and finished cookies, too! As you consider which cookies you want to make this month, consider adding this one to your list -
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar - packed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- cookie sprinkles
Directions -
- preheat oven to 350
- cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Mix flour, cream of tatar, baking soda, salt and nutmeg and add to creamed mixture.
- Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets
- top with cookie sprinkles
- bake for 8-10 minutes or until light brown.
- cook on wire rack
- enjoy!
As you make cookies together talk with them about something they could do to give to others . . . maybe package some of the cookies and give them to an elderly neighbor. Or maybe arrange to celebrate National Cookie Month with family and have a tasty cookie exchange! Be sure to keep your camera handy! Enjoy!
