- It was a separate British Dominion and only joined Canada in 1949.
- Vikings landed in L'Anse aux Meadows over 1,000 years ago, long before Columbus.
- St. John's is considered the oldest city in North America, with Water Street dating back to the early 1600s.
- Newfoundland operates on its own time zone, 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic Time.
