Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Newfoundland and Labrador

(You may have noticed, I've started a new blog about being a "Lost Canadian" and about the things I'm learning about Canada. Please check it out and I'd sincerely appreciate it if you'd share my posts to help spread the word about, 'Thoughts From a 'Lost Canadian'". Thank you!)

As I look at photos of Newfoundland and Labrador, I can see why people want to live here as this area is beautiful! It has everything - oceans with Puffins and Whales, Icebergs, Mountains, Forests, Lakes, extremely interesting history, and modern cities - certainly visiting - or even living here - would leave you with experiences you may not find in other places for sure. What more could a person want?

  • The province includes the island of Newfoundland and a large mainland portion, Labrador, with 94% of the population living on the island.
  • It was a separate British Dominion and only joined Canada in 1949.
  • Vikings landed in L'Anse aux Meadows over 1,000 years ago, long before Columbus.
  • St. John's is considered the oldest city in North America, with Water Street dating back to the early 1600s.
  • Newfoundland operates on its own time zone, 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic Time.
