Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" about Remembrance Day

Canadians celebrate a day, well it is more remember a day which is remembered here in the USA, too, but they call it a different name - Remembrance Day (In the USA it is called Veterans Day.) But, no matter what it is called, whether you are Canadian or from the USA, this day is a day to remember the end of World War 1 and honor the Veterans. This is what I've learned about Remembrance Day -

  • This day marks the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the Armistice took effect, ending World War I hostilities, and honors armed forces members who died in the line of duty.
  • It is a time for national reflection to honor the sacrifice of those who served in all wars, with traditional poppies worn as a symbol of remembrance.
  • Ceremonies are held at 11 A.M., often featuring two minutes of silence.
  • Observed in Canada (and other Commonwealth nations) as a statutory holiday in some regions, though rules vary by province.
