Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Canadian Inventions

This "Lost Canadian" has been learning many things about the wonderful place known as Canada - and has been sharing these things with you. Today I want to let you know about Canadian inventions - get ready to be impressed . . .

• Canadian inventions include the game Trivial Pursuit (Scott Abbot and Chris Haney), the telephone (Alexander Graham Bell), basketball (James Naismeth), and the snowmobile (Joseph-Armand Bombardier).
• Thomas Ahearn invented the electric cooking range in 1882.
• Graeme Ferguson co-invented IMAX. There are over 500 IMAX theaters in 45 countries.
• Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas was first isolated at the University of Toronto in 1921-22 by Dr. Frederick Banting and Charles Best.
• James Till and Ernest McCulloch are credited with the discovery of the stem cell.
• Artificial Pacemaker: Invented by John Hopps in 1950 to regulate abnormal heartbeats using external electrical pulses.
• Cobalt-60 Teletherapy: Developed in the 1950s by Harold Elford Johns, using radiation to target and destroy cancer cells globally.
• Canadarm: Debuted in 1981 on NASA’s space shuttle, this robotic arm was designed by a Canadian team to move and repair payloads in space.
