September, And Every Month, is National Suicide Prevention Month

I tend to write about the joys of spending time with the children we love, but it is important to also talk about difficult things and September has been National Suicide Prevention Month, so I want to again share some information to help you and/or people you love, as every month, every day is a time to prevent suicide.

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, a dedicated time to share resources, promote mental health awareness, and reduce the stigma surrounding suicide.
Immediate Crisis Support
  • Call or Text 988: Reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline free, confidentially, and 24/7 for yourself or a loved one.
  • Emergency: Call 911 if there is an immediate danger or risk of harm.
Warning Signs to Watch For
  • Talking about wanting to die, feeling hopeless, or being a burden.
  • Drastic shifts in mood, increased withdrawal, or isolation.
  • Giving away prized possessions or organizing final affairs.
  • Noticeable changes in sleeping, eating, or working habits.
How You Can Take Action

So, once again I would like to encourage you to take time to read the National Institute of Health's website at this link - they have some excellent resources on suicide. Be there for the ones you love. Watch for warning signs, one in five people struggle with mental illness, treat it as you would any illness, and take care of your own mental health, too.
