Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About "Valuing Nature and Mobilizing Capital"

I have been writing about how this "Lost Canadian" is so impressed to learn how our dear neighbors, friends, and family in Canada are taking concrete and measurable steps to protect Nature. I am so very thankful to know this - especially since here in the US the current massively corrupt occupant of the white house continues to undermine and weaken Nature throughout our country and even in our National Parks. Today I want to share with you Pillar Three of Canada's plan - Valuing Nature and Mobilizing Capital . . .

"Canada's natural assets underpin our economic prosperity, yet the current level of investment in protecting these assets is insufficient. It is estimated the annual funding gap globally, from all sources, to meet the commitments in the KMGBF has grown to over $1 trillion USD. Existing funding amounts to approximately $313 billion USD annually, of which over 80 per cent comes from public sources, which is not sustainable. To close the gap, public and private sector capital will be needed. Public funds alone will not suffice.

Footnote, of which over 80 per cent comes from public sources, which is not sustainable. To close the gap, public and private sector capital will be needed. Public funds alone will not suffice.

Under pillar 3, we will work with partners to drive private investment in nature positive outcomes and sustain the benefits of nature for current and future generations. Innovative nature financing models are emerging in Canada and globally, to help bridge the financing gap. Canada will build on past successes – such as those which support Indigenous-led conservation while leveraging government and private funding to support large-scale, long-term conservation.
