I'm very happy to share about a book with you which will make a difference in the lives of the children you love.  Are you one of the grandmas (or grandpas) who are so blessed to have grown children who love and walk with God, and who are committed to hand down confident faith with you to the children you all love? Do your grandchildren want to go to church, want to talk about their walk with God, and embrace a confident faith of their own? Chihuly at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

Since the beginning of May I have been enjoying Chihuly at  Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, MI nearly every week (since my husband and I have a membership.) We have enjoyed being able to see - and experience - Chihuly at Meijer Gardens during the Spring and Summer and now as the colors start to change on the trees we are enjoying it even more as Fall arrives! 

Tomorrow, September 18th is National Cheeseburger Day!

 

What could be a more American sandwich than the cheeseburger, and tomorrow is the day to celebrate this tasty sandwich!   Cheeseburgers can be grilled, broiled, or fried and you can top them with whatever cheese you like - although sharp cheddar is my favorite! You can make them with the standard beef, or try something more adventurous like Bison - extremely delicious - turkey, salmon - another winner for sure - or even ostrich! You can have a single, double, triple, or go the other direction and enjoy your cheeseburger as sliders! You can top it with ketchup, mustard, onions, pickles, lettuces, avocado, bacon . . . the list goes on and on for toppings! During World War II, Norwegians used paper clips as a subtle symbol of anti-Nazi resistance, wearing them on their lapels or as jewelry. The clip's purpose was to signify unity and solidarity—representing how people were "bound together" against the occupation. This grassroots form of non-violent protest originated in the fall of 1940, pioneered by students and teachers at the University of Oslo. When Nazi authorities and the collaborationist government of Vidkun Quisling attempted to force teachers to join a Nazi-led teachers' union and teach propaganda, thousands refused. By wearing or displaying paper clips, citizens signaled their silent, collective defiance. The symbol frustrated Nazi authorities because it was inconspicuous, making it nearly impossible to ban completely.

I've been writing about how this "Lost Canadian" continues to wait for my final four documents to arrive so I and my family are able to request our official Canadian citizenship (because of Bill C-3 - which says if you have Canadian ancestors - and I have 15 ancestors who were born in Canada since 1800 - you are already a Canadian - a "Lost Canadian" - and if you are able to document your direct line to a Canadian-born ancestor, you are able to receive your Canadian citizenship!). It will be worth the wait, so I am trying to be patient!

Last week I received a lovely book from Eerdmans Books for Young Readers - Consider the Night Sky, by Jennifer Grant and illustrated by Julianna Swaney and today I'm happy to let you know about it.

Today is National Dot Day! I enjoy wearing glasses with polka dots - they add such a fun touch to my glasses for sure! (I'm wearing my Pride Party Dots topper and Holiday Bauble with Foil Crystal topper both from Pride Eyewear.)

Please Stand Up & Speak Up

  

We are able to vote in November (at least as of today it looks like we will, but time will tell), so with all the things which are happening in our world, I'm sharing this post again and am asking you to please stand up and speak up. I write grandma's cookie jar to provide ideas for ways grandmas - and grandpas, moms, and dads might connect the children they love with God and build strong, loving relationships. I share recipes, book reviews, fun facts, and more - I have tried to stay away from politics. But not today. People I know and love live in fear. People I do not know live in fear - and some are dying at the hands of our government - in our country and now around the world. Our government is drowning in corruption and the trump-epstein files causes great concern. I can not stay silent as to be silent is to be complicit and I will not be complicit. I do not believe Jesus would be silent, either. So, I am sharing images I found on Instagram which say what I am thinking.

Today is Hug Your Hound Day! (If you have any kind of dog, they count as any dog is able to be hugged today - and any day!) As they say on Daysoftheyear.com, "Dogs have been standing loyally beside their humans since the dawn of history, being one of the first, if not the first, animals ever domesticated. Since then they’ve been warm and loving companions, loyal workers, and stalwart defenders of the homes and families of their owners.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About How Canada Respects & Values Their People with strong Human Rights

This "Lost Canadian" is still waiting for my final four documents to arrive so I and my family are able to request our official Canadian citizenship (because of Bill C-3 - which says if you have Canadian ancestors - and I have 15 ancestors who were born in Canada since 1800 - you are already a Canadian - a "Lost Canadian" - and if you are able to document your direct line to a Canadian-born ancestor, you are able to receive your Canadian citizenship!). The most recent article I saw said the current wait for receiving citizenship through Bill C-3 is now 33 months! This is on top of the time it takes to get official documents showing the direct line to Canadian-born ancestors. But, it will be worth the wait, so I am trying to be patient!

The Aegean Polka Dot Print Mix from Pair Eyewear

I do not know why, but I really do love glasses with polka dots on them - I have several tops with dots on them for my Pair Eyewear glasses, and I just received another new top - of course with polka dots! The Aegean Polka Dot Print Mix is such a pretty shade of blue - with blue and white polka dots - what could be better! I am very happy with this top!
