Today is National Tell a Joke Day!

Why don’t cats like online shopping? They prefer a cat-alogue.

What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef.

What is a cat’s favorite song? Three Blind Mice.

What do you call an alligator wearing a vest? An investi-gator.

Okay, well, Today is National Tell a Joke Day, so I thought I'd share a few jokes from the Today Show's Jokes for Kids - you will find more at this link, because of course, one big way to celebrate Tell a Joke Day, is by telling jokes!

crafting with grandma - Chalkboard Placemats, Lunch Box Lids and Containers!

The children we love are heading "back-to-school" or will be shortly, so, I'm really happy to share with you an idea I found on  Pinterest for making chalkboard placemats! What a fun and simple craft - one your grandchildren could help you make - which you could use at your house . . . and make extras to send home . . . so they are able to practice writing or math or whatever while they wait for their meals, or wait to be excused from the table . . . or just for fun! Check this link for all the directions!

National Lemon Meringue Pie Day

Today is National Lemon Meringue Pie Day - and while I certainly enjoy a tasty slice of lemon meringue pie, I'm thinking more about celebrating this with a cross between a lemon bar and lemon chiffon pie! To make this tasty treat I will make a butter shortbread cookie lemon bar bottom, take my lemon curd, cool it, whip the egg whites to make meringue, then fold the lemon curd and meringue together - gently - and top on my cooled butter shortbread cookie crust. This will be tasty for sure!

Saturday - August 17th - is World Honey Bee Day!

Yes, in two days we will all be able to celebrate the amazing honey bee as it is World Honey Bee Day on the 17th! On days of the year (dot) com it says, "World Honey Bee Day is an awareness day whereby honey bee enthusiasts, beekeeping associations and clubs, and beekeepers celebrate the honey bee. It is a day to recognize the contribution honey bees make to our everyday lives, as well as learning about the different steps we can take in order to protect this vital species." So, let's take a look at some fun honey and bee facts which we are able to share with the children we love - did you know . . .

Today, August 14th, is National Creamsicle Day and a Recipe for Creamsicle Pie!

Who knew such a day even existed, but since it does, why not celebrate it??? :-) I like creamsicles - after all, what isn't there to like about a bit of ice cream covered with a popsicle? I especially find Schwans' root beer float creamsicles to be particularly enjoyable, but it is hard to go wrong with any flavor of creamsicle!

grandma's cookbook - Peanut Butter Bars!

Peanut butter Bars! Mmmmm! Just the name has me thinking about the supplies I have and if I need to buy anything to make a batch! After all, what's not to love about chocolate and peanut butter?!!! I was browsing on Pinterest and found a recipe for peanut butter bars, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Back-to-School Handprint Prayers

The new school year is about to begin - believe it or not, so today I'm happy to share with you an idea to help you to encourage your grandchildren (of any age and in any location) and hand down a heritage of confident faith to them as well. Now, I know I shared this idea before, but with the start of school, if you did not try this idea in the past, now is the perfect time to do so.

World Elephant Day!

Today is a special day, it is World Elephant Day! I personally love elephants - especially Pygmy Elephants (which, yes, are a real thing), so a day to focus on and celebrate these amazing animals is certainly a day worth celebrating! Let's start with some fun elephant facts, did you know . . .

It is Time for a Picnic!

When my grandsons were younger they enjoyed picnics - if the children you love enjoy them as well, consider making plans for a tasty time together before school begins. Gather the ones you love, decide on a menu, make a shopping list, prepare food together, and choose the location for your picnic - be sure to bring your camera!

So, since this post is about picnics, I thought it would be fun today to share some "picnic" info with you! Did you know . . .

Just for Fun!!! Elephant Design!

When I look at the world around me I see detail, wonder, and design. It is impossible for me to believe it all "just happened" on its own, or one creature had the intelligence to determine it needed legs or wings or whatever to survive and the ability to just grow those things. I believe God designed  and created our world to evolve with all the wondrous creatures and beautiful features we can see today!

Having said this, did you know . . .

Today is Son & Daughter Day

I do not need a special day to be thankful for and to remember the joy my daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons bring to my life, but today is Son & Daughter Day . . . the day to celebrate our sons and daughters!

It also happens to be a great evening to watch the Perseid meteor shower and, since yesterday was also 'Smores Day, one way you might celebrate together is by making 'smores - it won't matter for it to be one day after 'Smores Day.

So, on this Sons & Daughters Day, let's take a moment to look at some interesting, fun facts - did you know . . .

Make a Difference this School Year by Praying Deeper, Together!

Praying for our grandchildren (and children) is something we all know we need to do, but it is also something with which many of us struggle. We may feel like our prayers do not even make it through the ceiling above us and do not know what to say or how to pray. Our lives are busy, so finding the time to pray oftentimes is a challenge which we may not overcome and then days go by without us spending time in prayer.

Yet, we know prayer is important. We know, especially in this day and age, we - and our grandchildren (and children) need all the prayer they can get. We want to be people who pray; and people who pray deeply, but are not sure how to be this kind of person.

Today is National Connecticut Day

If you, or someone you love/know lives in Connecticut, today is a day to celebrate! What makes Connecticut special? Well, we will look at some fun facts about this State, but first will check some of their silly laws - be sure to share with the children you love - my grandsons tend to enjoy hearing these when I share with them. Did you know . . .

Make a Difference for Generations with Generations Quest Cultivate the Faith!

When we hand down the faith, we watch for those unplanned opportunities to connect life with God, His Word and how we are able to know and walk with Him. But, we also need to plan opportunities to do these things in a very intentional and purposeful way as well. Handing down the faith tends to be something which we look forward to doing and enjoy, or something which leaves us feeling confused and unable to do effectively. Well, no matter which of these describes you, I am very happy today to let you know about a resource which gives you 52 lessons, complete with science projects, crafts and cooking activities to engage the children you love while also helping them learn about real people from the Bible, how those Bible people chose to walk with God and how they are able to do the same. This resource is called Generations Quest Cultivate the Faith!
