Today is National Play Your Ukulele Day

My exposure to people playing the ukulele has been limited - I thought it was a simple instrument which people just strummed to play. But, my middle grand can get actual real music out of their ukulele - music which is actually pretty! So, since today is National Play Your Ukulele Day, I thought I'd share some info about ukuleles.

Today is Global Love Day

Certainly every day is a day to be sure we love all others, but today is especially a day set aside to do so. Nationaltoday.com says, "Dedicated to the spreading of love and peace to all mankind, Global Love Day is observed annually on May 1. This day was created by The Love Foundation to encourage unity and celebrate humanity through unconditional love. The world would be a much better place if we all showed just a little more love to each other, and this day is a big step in this direction." I'm sure we all agree with showing love to others, so let's look at some ways to do this . . .

One day, several years ago, when my sweet grands were younger, we took some large paper and had them lay on the paper, on the floor while I traced around them. They then got to work turning the drawings into Super Robot versions of themselves!!! 

A Family of Her Own for Candy - A Fun Children's Picture Book

  

May is a month for  reading to children, and since it is nearly May, I thought I'd share a fun picture book with you. Three summers ago my husband, grands, and I went to the Humane Society to get a kitten. I wanted my grands to go with us because, first of all, they love all animals, secondly I wanted to be sure whatever cat we got was one which was able to be around my grands without being aggressive. We spent some time at the Humane Society and finally settled on a very sweet calico - which we named Candy, because she is sweet (and my middle grand said she reminded him of candy corn.)

Sometimes when my grands were younger and I was trying to decide what to fix them for a meal, I forget the one important thing to remember . . . keep it simple. Children usually do not care if something is elaborate or took a long time to prepare. They are often delighted with simple things . . . such as heart PB & J sandwiches!

Mother's Day is just a few weeks away so I thought I'd share another gift idea which you  could help your grandchildren make for their mom. I was browsing on Pinterest  and found an idea for a heart craft your grandchildren could have a lot of fun making for their mom! It is also a craft which you could help your grandchildren with depending on the level of help they need - older grandchildren would need little help and younger grandchildren would need more, but it is a craft which many children could make!

Mmmmm! Blueberry Pie Day! What a delicious day to celebrate!!! I am personally a fan of blueberries; I like them pretty much any way they can be fixed and just plain, "as they are" is delicious, too!

just for fun - Today is, "Tell a Story Day"!

I love the "holiday" for today - Tell a Story Day! Around this grandma's house when my grands were younger, we LOVED telling stories! They were excellent storytellers and they made up some of the best . . . and funniest stories ever! In fact, for my birthday one year, my oldest grand gave me one of the best presents ever . . . an original story he made up and illustrated for me; "Super Josiah Saves Grandma from All the Robot Spiders in History"! 

Yes, most of our stories had Super Grands in them and you can pretty well count on at least one monster or alien showing up in the stories as well! After all, they were five, two and nine-months at the time, so I suppose it is one of those inevitabilities of life!

Our grandchildren grow up so fast . . . just as our children did. I'm very thankful for photos and for handprints which help me remember them when they were little . . . so when I saw this handprint idea on  Pinterest, I knew I had to share it with you!
