September 13th is National Peanut Day - Here are SomeFun Facts!

Saturday is National Peanut Day, so I checked the National Peanut Board's website for some peanut info and found a wealth of peanut fun facts! I thought I'd share some with you - did you know . . . 

Memories - Build Some Today!

I live in the house my grandparent's had built back in the 1920's. My dad was born in this house (the photo is of him, his friends, and my grandma in front of the house) and I remember visiting my grandparents and having sleepovers in this house. I remember my grandma baking homemade bread and then giving me a slice with peanut butter on it after it came out of the oven. I remember singing Sunday school songs with my grandpa when I visited them! There are a lot of wonderful memories in this house!

Autumn Nights are Coming to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

If you live near Grand Rapids, Michigan, or are planning to visit and will be here on any Tuesday in October, then mark your calendars now and plan to visit Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park for their amazing Autumn Nights - which includes their Glow Gardens! You will find all the details at this link but you will see trees awash in colorful lights, intricately, and artfully carved pumpkins, get to meet with the pumpkin carving artist, hear music, enjoy beverages and snacks, plus, be fascinated by the incredible Mum displays in their Mums at Meijer Gardens - which I wrote about yesterday and will be held at the same time!

I live on an acre, out in the country, in Michigan, in the farmhouse my grandparents built back in the 1920's. In my front and side yard are five very large maple trees. In my back yard, behind the double-stall garage is the most enormous maple tree I've ever seen - it reaches far above the roof of the garage and spans beyond the sides of the garage - on both sides! It is absolutely enormous! We also have one very, very tall sycamore tree, three birch trees and several other trees - including about a dozen pine trees.

I heard something the other day which is absolutely true - unless I look in a mirror, or cross-eyed, I can not see my own nose. This does not mean my nose is no longer on my face - just I can not see it. Others are able to see my nose - it is actually one of the first things we see when we look at people.

Today is International Literacy Day

Today is International Literacy Day - a day well worth celebrating for sure! NationalToday (dot) com says, "International Literacy Day takes place on September 8 every year to raise awareness and concern for literacy problems which exist within our own local communities as well as globally. International Literacy Day was founded by proclamation of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, or UNESCO, in 1966 'to remind the public of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights.' International Literacy Day brings ownership of the challenges of illiteracy back home to local communities where literacy begins, one person at a time." Honey, Maple, Oat Artisan Bread

From time to time I enjoy making artisan bread - and I have a new recipe which I want to share with you today - especially since September is Honey Month. Before I get to the recipe I want to say this bread just takes minutes to mix by hand, you let it rise for a few hours, then pop it into the oven for about 40 minutes - this is all there is to it!
