grandma's cookbook . . . Cherry Jam Thumbprint Cookies!

Since it is National Egg Day and Cookie month, if you enjoy baking cookies with your grandchildren and want to try a recipe which you may not typically make, consider this recipe for Cherry Jam Thumbprint Cookies (I found it at this link and "tweaked" it just a bit) . . .

Today is World Egg Day

Eggs are eaten all over the world and can be fried, scrambled, boiled, poached, and added to other things to make delicious dishes - they are well worth being celebrated! So, let's learn a few things about eggs - and be sure to share with the children you love - did you know . . .

A Family of Her Own for Candy - New Look!

The summer of 2022 my husband, grands, and I went to the Humane Society to get a kitten. I wanted my grands to go with us because, first of all, they love all animals, secondly I wanted to be sure whatever cat we got was one which was able to be around my grands without being aggressive. We spent some time at the Humane Society and finally settled on a very sweet calico - which we named Candy, because she is sweet.

The Halloween Dilemma . . .

When it comes to Halloween, I have always felt a bit of a dilemma.  As a child it was harmless. I dressed up as princess, a Japanese girl in a kimono, etc . . . simple costumes with no focus on gore or evil. My siblings and I trick-or-treated to the neighbors' homes on our street and always felt like we really "scored" with our buckets of candy! After all, it was really all about the candy!!!

Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

My grands enjoy cookies, but one of their favorites is chocolate chip, peanut  butter cookies. When they were younger it was not unusual for them to go straight to the cookie jar when they arrived at my house - which was typically followed with very happy smiles on their faces!

Fall Book Review - Life on the Amazing Goldilocks Planet

I'm very happy to share a new book with you which will make a difference in the lives of the children you love. Are you one of the grandmas (or grandpas) who are so blessed to have grown children who love and walk with God, and who are committed to hand down confident faith with you to the children you all love? Do your grandchildren want to go to church, want to talk about their walk with God, and embrace a confident faith of their own? Or, do you have grown children who, like so many their age, are no longer involved in church, who do not embrace a confident faith of their own, and/or grandchildren who tell you they are, "not into that church thing any more"?

grandma's cookbook - Peanut-Butter Cup Cookies!

Since October is Cookie Month, I thought I'd share another cookie recipe with you today. I saw this recipe on Pinterest so today is a the day to share it with you! I love how this is a fairly simple recipe and it is one the children you love will have fun helping you make - I'm sure they will love putting the peanut-butter cups in the cookies! (Of course, they are very likely to sample a few peanut-butter cups as well!)

October is National Popcorn Poppin' Month!

Who knew there were so many months which celebrated specific foods???!!! Well, if any food is to be celebrated, popcorn should definitely be on the list! I LOVE popcorn! Popped, caramel, it really doesn't matter, I LOVE popcorn!

I thought it would be fun to share some popcorn fun facts with you which I found on-line - did you know . . .

Fall Book Review - Bally the Amazing Wonderball

I have one more book from Kids Can Press to share with you - Bally the Amazing Wonderball by Jordan Morris.

Favorite Features -

  • Fun, colorful illustrations - if children pay attention to what is happening in the illustrations, they may be able to guess what will happen in the story!
  • This book would be fun to read to children as if you are the announcer at the Amazing Wonderball show - makes it more fun!

Today is World Octopus Day!

Octopuses are clearly one of the most odd and interesting creatures living on Earth, so a day to celebrate them makes sense! I will share some fun facts about these unique animals - please be sure to share with the children you love - and then some ideas you might use to help the children you love make their own eight-legged friends. Did you know . . .

Today is National Stop Bullying Day

I'm sure we all agree we do not want the children we love to be bullies or to bully others, so a day focused on stopping bullying is a positive thing. Bullying is a nationally-recognized issue, and there are many resources for parents, teachers, victims of bullying, and bystanders to help stomp out the problem. Help the children you love know the following ways to stop bullying . . .

Fall Book Review - I'm Longer Than You!

For the past few days I've been sharing new books from Kids Can Press and today I'm happy to let you know about another one - I'm Longer Than You! by Carolyn Fisher.

grandma's chuckles - I Still Have My Grandma Super Power

Today during Cookie Month I am remembering how one day when my grands were younger and they were at my house I made cookies for them -  they decided my "grandma super power" was making cookies! They decided I have this "grandma super power" and if they had to choose between a grandma with the super power of running fast or making cookies, they would definitely choose making cookies! Plus, my youngest grandson said he wished he could live on just eating my cookies!

October is National Chili Month!

Fall is upon us and it is time for chili - chili cook-offs, chili dinners, chili get-togethers - anything and everything chili! Plus, it is National Chili Month, so gather your supplies, invite the ones you love, and get ready for a tasty bowl of chili to add to the wonderfulness of spending time with the people you love!

Now, if you are like me, and you are not able to eat very spicy foods, this does not mean you are not able to enjoy a tasty, warm bowl of chili - just try my favorite recipe . . .
