The Dr. Seuss Quote for Today - You'll Miss the Best Things . . .

The Dr. Seuss Quote for today . . . "You'll miss the best things if you keep your eyes shut!" Wow! This short saying has some powerful truth in it! When I think about missing the "best things" by "keeping my eyes shut" I think about  missing out by not using the gifts and talents which are unique to each of us because we may think we are, "not enough". Far too many of us think we do not have enough to offer, or are not "enough" as we are, but the truth is we are each unique and needed just as we are!

It is National Oreo Cookie Day!!!!

What a fun and tasty day to celebrate!!! My grands absolutely are "fans" of Oreo cookies . . . after all, they are quite the tasty treat! Since today is National Oreo Cookie Day, I thought it would be fun to share a few, "Oreo facts" with you . . .

grandma's cookbook - Oreo & Fudge Ice Cream Cake

Since today is National Oreo Day, I thought I'd help you celebrate it by sharing a recipe I found as I browsed the Oreo recipes - I came across a recipe which left me with only one word I could say . . WOW!!!!!  Chocolate pudding, Cool Whip (although I think you could easily substitute real whipping cream in this recipe), Oreos, Chocolate Fudge topping, and Ice Cream Sandwiches . . . mix all together and you have a dessert which will leave everyone who eats it saying, "WOW!!!!"

It is World Book Day & Some Fun Ways to Celebrate!

Apparently February 23rd was World Book Day - I do not know how I missed it, but since March is National Reading Month and when we celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday, today is also a great day to think about, celebrate, and enjoy books!

So, here are a few fun ideas for celebrating with your grandchildren!

First, some history of this wonderful day, which I found on-line . . .

It is Read an E-Book Week

I love books, but when I think about books, I picture traditional books you hold in your hand and turn pages - real paper pages. I'm old. Today when many people think of books, they picture an e-book which they are able to access on a tablet, computer, or phone. It is this type of books - techy, e-books which are being celebrated this week!

Saint Patrick's Day . . . Get the Story from VeggieTales!

In just a couple weeks it will be St. Patrick's Day, so I thought I'd share about how several years ago VeggieTales told the story of Saint Patrick on their Sumo Of The Opera and Lessons from the Sock Drawer DVDs. I found it very interesting and informative . . . I had never really heard the story of St. Patrick before. So, if your grandchildren ask why people celebrate St. Patrick's Day, pull out VeggieTales and show them the story behind the day!

The Dr. Seuss Quote for Today - Today Was Good . . .

The Dr. Seuss Quote for today - "Today was good! Today was fun! Tomorrow is another one!" Some of our days are filled with good things, good times, and good experiences . . . it is easy to celebrate and be glad on those kinds of days!

Some of our days are sad, difficult, and trying . . . it can be difficult to celebrate on those kinds of days. Encourage the ones you love to pull close to those who do love and accept them at all times - especially on the trying and difficult days. Make time to help them identify who the people are who are always "in their corner" - no matter what type of day they are experiencing.

crafting with grandma - Dr. Seuss & the Foot Book

Since Dr Seuss' birthday was on March 2nd and the month of March is a fun time to celebrate the creativity of Dr. Seuss, I thought it would be fun to look at a Dr. Seuss craft today! But, first, a bit of info (I found on Wiki) on the man known to children everywhere as Dr. Seuss . . .

There is No One Alive Who is "Youer" Than You

In the past I have shared a Dr. Seuss Quote each day throughout the month of March - since Dr. Seuss' birthday is in March. He had some really excellent quotes for sure. Today I am sharing one of my favorites with you - "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you."

Let's Make Chocolate Chip Cookies for National Chocolate Chip Cookie Week!

While chocolate chip cookies are a treat to enjoy any day - especially fresh from the oven, this week is National Chocolate Chip Cookie Week, so it seems like a perfect time to make these tasty treats. Of course this means I need to share a recipe or two with you, so I chose the first one from when my oldest grand was young and we were going to make cookies, so I asked what kind of cookies we should make. The answer was, "Chocolate, chocolate-chip!" So, we sat down with my computer to find a recipe. I found one and read the ingredients out loud, but heard, "That's not the one we want." I thought it could work, but read the next one. This time I heard, "Yes! This is the one. It has cocoa and the other one didn't. We need cocoa to make chocolate, chocolate-chip cookies!" My grand was right! We made the recipe with just a couple "tweaks" which I'm sharing with you. The cookies turned out quite delightful - after all, they have cocoa, chocolate-chips, peanut butter, and sour cream in them, so how could they be anything but delicious and delightful?

March is National Reading Month

Days of the Month (dot) com says, "With the power to provide knowledge, enact the imagination, improve mental abilities, enhance conversational skills, and so much more, reading truly does hold a key to changing the lives of children and adults all over the world!" I absolutely agree. Reading is an essential thing for us to do with the children we love, encourage and help them as they learn to be people who read, and then encourage them to be people who read all their lives - and absolutely model this for them as well.

Please Stand Up & Speak Up

I have posted this a few times, but with all the things which are happening in our world, I'm sharing it again today. I write grandma's cookie jar to provide ideas for ways grandmas - and grandpas, moms, and dads might connect the children they love with God and build strong, loving relationships. I share recipes, book reviews, fun facts, and more - I typically stay away from politics. But not today. People I know and love live in fear. People I do not know live in fear - and some are dying at the hands of our government - in our country and now around the world. Our government is being drown in corruption and the trump-epstein files causes great concern. I can not stay silent. I do not believe Jesus would be silent, either. So, I am sharing images I found on instagram - they say what I am thinking.

Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday with a "There's a Wocket in My Pocket Rhyming Scavenger Hunt"

Today is Dr. Seuss' birthday so if you would like a fun idea for a great activity you could to do with the children you love to "celebrate", check out this idea. When my grands were younger I browsed on Pinterest  and found this idea which I absolutely LOVE . . . a "There’s a Wocket in My Pocket- A Rhyming Scavenger Hunt" - we did this and it was SO much fun!

just for fun - It is Dr. Seuss Day!

Today is Dr. Seuss' birthday! I found a great "write up" about this day on-line, so I thought I'd share it with you . . . "Today is Dr. Seuss Day, a full twenty-four hours to make a mess with the Cat in the Hat, dance around with the Fox in Sox, hear a Who with Horton, count the red and blue fish, help the Grinch see the error of his ways, and listen to Sam I Am’s friend complain about his dish of green eggs and ham!
