Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About the Arrival of Europeans

Yesterday I shared what I learned about the First Nations Peoples who migrated from Asia to Canada up to 16,500 years ago, so today I'm sharing what I've learned about European peoples who migrated to Canada about one thousand years ago. You may be surprised at what I learned - I was.

grandma's cookbook - Heart PB & J

Sometimes when my grands were younger and I was deciding what to fix them for a meal, I forgot the one important thing to remember . . . keep it simple. Children usually do not care if something is elaborate or took a long time to prepare. They are often delighted with simple things . . . such as heart PB & J sandwiches!

Pair Eyewear Limited Edition Topper - The Denim Heart Crystal Glitter

A year ago January when I had to get new glasses, I decided to try Pair Eyewear. This line of glasses was designed to have magnetic top frames which you are able to change out for an entirely new look and style - it is SUCH a fantastic idea! It is like getting an entirely new pair of glasses for only $25 or $30 - the cost of a new topper. I have to say, I absolutely LOVE Pair Eyewear!

grandma's chuckles - a "Normal" Sandwich!

Today I am remembering a time when my then sweet three-year old grandson was over to my house for a few hours and, as he typically did, he had me laughing and filled my heart with joy. I thought it would be fun to share one of our conversations with you . . .

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Respecting Canada's First Nations Peoples

For the past two weeks I've been writing about the land of Canada. As a "Lost Canadian" it matters to me for me to learn about this incredible country of which I am actually a citizen! Growing up in the USA, of course I learned a lot about this country, but I knew very little about Canada - even growing up in Michigan, which is very close to Canada. But now I have learned some very interesting information about the country of Canada by learning about its thirteen Provinces and Territories.

But there is much more for me to learn about Canada. So, I thought I'd look at the first peoples who lived in this land - the First Nations. I have learned . . .

Once Again, Please Stand Up & Speak Up - Especially if You are a Mom/Grandma

I recently wrote about "hope" and while I do believe it is essential for us to have hope, there are many days when I feel like hope is far away with all the corruption and lack of justice going on in this country. I do believe it is essential for us to all stand up and speak up because if we do not, then we are being complicit with the evil happening in this country. While we all likely were able to breathe a short breath of relief when the massively corrupt war criminal who currently occupies the white house didn't carry though on his war crime threats for the, "whole civilization to die, never to be brought back again." those two weeks are long gone and now none of us know what will happen next and an end to the violence and war in Iran seems far away, which once again brings us all to a place where none of us wants to be.

Just for Fun!!! Even More Animal Mom Facts!

There are so many interesting and amazing animals in the world, so learning about them is usually lots of fun! When you add in the "mom facts" . . . these animal mom facts are even more interesting!  Check these bits of animal mom trivia I found on-line . . .

just for fun - Today is Blueberry Pie Day!

Mmmmm! Blueberry Pie Day! What a delicious day to celebrate!!! I am personally a fan of blueberries; I like them pretty much any way they can be fixed and just plain, "as they are" is delicious, too!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Yukon

As I've written, when I learned I was a "Lost Canadian" I knew I wanted to learn about the country of which I am actually part. It is such an incredible thing to know while I wake up every day feeling shame and despair about the country in which I have grown up, the USA, I am able to feel relief, gratitude, and joy in knowing I am part of a country like Canada! It matters to me to learn about this country, my country, Canada, so this is exactly what I have been doing. Today I very happy to share with you what I have learned about the last Territory for me to write about - Yukon!

Life on the Amazing Goldilocks Planet

I'm very happy to share a book with you which will make a difference in the lives of the children you love. Are you one of the grandmas (or grandpas) who are so blessed to have grown children who love and walk with God, and who are committed to hand down confident faith with you to the children you all love? Do your grandchildren want to go to church, want to talk about their walk with God, and embrace a confident faith of their own? Or, do you have grown children who, like so many their age, are no longer involved in church, who do not embrace a confident faith of their own, and/or grandchildren who tell you they are, "not into that church thing any more"?

just for fun - Today is, "Tell a Story Day"!

I love the "holiday" for today - Tell a Story Day! Around this grandma's house when my grands were younger, we LOVED telling stories! They were excellent storytellers and they made up some of the best . . . and funniest stories ever! In fact, for my birthday one year, my oldest grand gave me one of the best presents ever . . . an original story he made up and illustrated for me; "Super Josiah Saves Grandma from All the Robot Spiders in History"!

Yes, most of our stories had Super Grands in them and you can pretty well count on at least one monster or alien showing up in the stories as well! After all, they were five, two, and nine-months at the time, so I suppose it is one of those inevitabilities of life!

Mother's Day & Teacher Appreciation - Mini Apple Pies!

It is the time of year when we think about helping our grandchildren make gifts for their moms for Mother's Day and for their teachers as an end of year thank you gift. When my grands were younger I asked the oldest one if he wanted to give his teachers a candy bar with a thank you note on it to thank them at the end of Wednesday night, Kids-'N-Action. My grand said, "For Christmas I made them melted snowmen ornaments. I think I should make my teachers something." I agreed and was trying to think of something for my grands to make when they said, "I think I should make them apple pies!"

I have to say, making apple pies had not occurred to me, but it is a good - and likely a tasty - idea! So, I stopped by the store and got foil pot-pie pans and three kinds of apples and then my grands and I made mini-apple pies!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About British Columbia

The past eleven days this "Lost Canadian" has been learning about the Provinces and Territories of Canada - there is one more Province and one more Territory, so today I'm writing about the last  Province - British Columbia, and I am very happy to share with you what I've learned about this amazing place!

Hand Down Confident Faith with the little answer book for children

I want you to know about Barna's and Gallup's recent polls - for a very important reason . . . because we must stand up and take action to stop the loss of the ones we love. If someone does not speak up and ask others to join them, how will grandparents, parents, and church leaders know there is a way to stop what is happening?
