Yes, today we are able to celebrate the amazing honey bee as it is World Honey Bee Day! On days of the year (dot) com it says, "World Honey Bee Day is an awareness day whereby honey bee enthusiasts, beekeeping associations and clubs, and beekeepers celebrate the honey bee. It is a day to recognize the contribution honey bees make to our everyday lives, as well as learning about the different steps we can take in order to protect this vital species." An Inheritance Which Matters

Tonight my daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and grands are joining my husband and I for a grill and ice cream night! My husband will be grilling burgers and hot dogs and I'm making homemade vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate ice cream. I'm also making brownies today and then after supper, everyone can choose the ice cream they want and top with brownies, cookie dough, candy bits, mini chocolate chips, caramel, chocolate syrup, strawberries, and whipped cream - whatever they want as it is make your own sundae night!

National Lemon Meringue Pie Day

 

Today is National Lemon Meringue Pie Day - and while I certainly enjoy a tasty slice of lemon meringue pie, I'm thinking more about celebrating this with a cross between a lemon bar and lemon chiffon pie! To make this tasty treat you just need to make a butter shortbread cookie, lemon bar bottom, take your lemon curd, cool it, whip the egg whites to make meringue, then fold the lemon curd and meringue together - gently - and top on the cooled butter shortbread cookie crust. This is tasty for sure!

Grandparent's Day is always the first Sunday in September following Labor Day - this year it is on the 13th, so if you are looking for a gift for a grandparent you love, take a look at Praying Deeper Through the Scriptures: For the Children You Love Who Walk With God & Those Who Do Not. We do not know what the future holds. We are not able to see "under the surface" (think ice bergs - we are able to see the part above the water, but not the much larger part under the water.) If we are experiencing challenges in our lives, it is very possible we have to wait to see what God has planned.

Doing this "waiting" is oftentimes extremely difficult, but in all honesty, there is no other option than for us to wait. Yes, we may become discouraged or angry, but choosing instead to trust God and wait is the choice which is best.

One of my favorite foods is stew. I love how you can put veggies, pork (or beef), and seasonings in a pot and it doesn't take long for your home to fill with the most delightful aroma and then in under an hour your family is able to enjoy a tasty meal! Who knew such a day even existed, but since it does, why not celebrate it??? :-) I like  creamsicles - after all, what isn't there to like about a bit of ice cream covered with an orange sherbet?

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Why I Would Move to Canada

This past April when I learned about the new law in Canada (Bill C-3, Citizenship by Descent) I was very surprised and extremely happy to learn I have ancestors - quite a number of them, who were Canadians! Going back just to 1800 I have fifteen ancestors who were born in Canada - mostly Ontario, but also Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. Growing up I never knew about my Canadian ancestors, and one of them was just my great-grandpa - which is not going back very far at all.

Fluffy Cinnamon Biscuits!

Okay, I admit it, I have always struggled to make a perfect, fluffy biscuit. My biscuits typically turned out resembling a rock more than anything you actually wanted to eat. But, I found a recipe one day and discovered, not only was it easy and quick, but the biscuits turned out fluffy and wonderful! Plus, when you add cinnamon and make a little icing on the side for the children you love to top their biscuits with as they like, it makes a fantastic breakfast biscuit! So, of course I have to share this recipe with you.
