grandma's bookshelf - Tushes & Tails! - I'm Giving One Away!

"Whose colorful tail feathers are those? Who has a striped rear end? Can you recognize these animal tushes?" These questions are sure to be answered with the new book, Tushes & Tails! I love books with photos of animals and I love books with lift-the-flaps . . . Tushes & Tails! combine the two in an unexpected way . . . or at least from an unexpected "perspective" . . . for a book children - and adults are sure to love! And, I get to give one away!

More Thoughts About a Grrandma's "Role"!

A couple days ago I posted about a grandma's "role" so today I thought I'd comment about a few of the points in that post!

The author of the article I quoted in my post said, being a grandparent is a blessing and grandchildren can restore our youth . . . I most certainly agree! I LOVE my grandsons and the time I spend with them, while it may leave me physically tired, it restores my spirit and as the author of the article wrote, "it is one of the most rewarding forms of fatigue you will ever know."

Have You "Liked" the Manners Mentor Yet?

I've shared manners insights from my friend Maralee McKee - the Manners Mentor - with you from time to time and my blog stats tell me, these posts are some of the most read ever! We all care about manners . . . for ourselves and certainly for our grandchildren/children! Maralee's gracious way of sharing manners do's and don'ts with us are true gifts to be cherished! So often it is difficult to know what to do - or don't!

Thank You For Your Prayers!

I'm happy to say Stephanie Hartzell has been returned to her mom! Thank you for praying!

Children's Museum Tour . . . I'm Giving Away Free Tickets!

I began this month with a Children's Museum "Tour" and shared information about several Children's Museums - and gave away some free tickets, too! I still have a few more Children's Museums to let you know about and I still have tickets to give away!

If you have never visited a children's museum, you are missing out on one of the best places you can take your grandchildren/children because, unlike other museums, children's museums are places where children - and adults - not only can touch, but are encouraged and invited to do so! At a children's museum you can touch, explore, experience, learn and will certainly have lots of fun!

So, What is a Grandma's Role?

This is one grandma who absolutely loves her grandchildren (and mom who loves her children and daughter-in-law, too!) I know as a mom my "role" was to raise my children in the "nurture and admonition of the Lord" - and this parenting "job" is one my husband and I took seriously. Oh, we most certainly were not perfect parents - there are things I would do differently today, but we did the best we could with what we knew to do and our children, as adults, do love God!

Obviously as grandma I am not "mom", so what is my "job" as "grandma"? I found an excellent post on-line about "grandparents" and want to share a few points this writer made. (You will find the complete article at this link

Cooking = Family Memories to Treasure!

What do you remember from when you were a child? Which family memories stand out to you when you remember being young? For me, I remember times when my family got together . . . there were always amazing things to eat as my family had excellent cooks in it! My grandmas and my mom could all cook! There are few things in life as wonderful as time spent with family . . . when you can add in tasty things to eat . . . well, it is the "cherry on top"!

grandma's movie review - Lady & the Tramp II

One of the all-time classic, adorable and best Disney stories ever was Lady & the Tramp . . . at least in my opinion! So, a few years ago when they made a Lady & the Tramp II, I was curious to see what they would do with it; I was happy to find they did a decent job and the children who I babysat at the time really enjoy it. On August 21, 2012 Disney is re-releasing it to blu-ray and they sent me one to review!

the American Bible Challenge!

grandma's movie review - The Aristocats - I'm Giving One Away!

I'm very happy today for the opportunity to review - and give away - Disney's The Aristocats! This old classic is being released on Blu-ray with all the color, music and fun it is loved for! I'm not particularly a "cat lover" . . . I much prefer the Basset Hound in the movie! But, The Aristocats is a fun story and has great music . . . music a young grandchild can and will dance to, so for these reasons, The Aristocats is one of my favorite classic Disney stories!

grandma's movie review - The Rescuers & The Rescuers Down Under - I'm Giving One Away!

This year Disney is cerebrating the 35th Anniversary of the movie, The Rescuers with the release of a Rescuers 2 Movie Collection! crafting with grandma - Quick & Easy Crocheted Scarf!

Christmas is just a little over four months away, which means, I have to get busy making some of the gifts I plan to give away! Classic Elite Yarn sent me some of their wonderful yarn for review, so I used some to make scarves . . . the pattern I used is a very simple pattern - a great pattern to use if you are helping grandchildren learn to crochet - I'll share the pattern in a moment, but first, a few words about the yarn!

Classic Elite Provence yarn is a "mercerized Egyptian cotton which knits into a strong and beautiful fabric. Egyptian cotton has two qualities which make it a great cotton yarn: a very long staple (fiber) length and a small diameter. The long staple gives the yarn strength and sheen; and the delicate diameter means it spins into a soft, smooth yarn. Mercerizing makes a yarn which is stable, takes dye well, and is less likely to shrink." I love the feel of this yarn and the colors . . . the finished scarves drape beautifully

Children's Museum Tour - Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin - East of the Mississippi!

Visit Us Header ImageAs I posted earlier this week, back in June I asked for volunteers to visit some Children's Museums across the country and then tell me what they liked for my Children's Museum Tour! I had several museums which nobody was available to visit for me, but I still have tickets for them. So, today I want to share some information with you about them and give you another opportunity to get tickets to these wonderful children's museums!

grandma's cookbook . . . Fluffy Rolls

Texas Roadhouse Sweet Yeast Rolls Recipe * Also, click link for Cinnamon Honey Butter RecipeMmmm! I love rolls! Fresh from the oven, soft, with butter melting on them . . . what could be more enjoyable? As a child, one of my favorite parts of Thanskgiving dinner was knowing I was going to be able to enjoy a couple of my grandma's rolls! So, as I browsed on Pinterest the other day, I noticed a recipe for rolls. The picture alone was enough to put a smile on my face! I'm planning to  make these tomorrow, but I thought I'd go ahead and share the recipe with you today!

Instant Family Devotions - Book Review

If you have been reading grandma's cookie jar for very long, you know one of the most important things to me is for my grandchildren to know, love and walk with God! So, I always have my eyes open for resources I can use with my grandsons and resources I can give their parents as well. I recently had the opportunity to review the book, Instant Family Devotions by Mike Nappa and Jill Wuellner . . . this is a resource well worth passing on to your children so they can use it with your grandchildren!

grandma's bookshelf - Puff, the Magic Dragon - I'm Giving one Away!

Do you remember the story and song of Puff, the Magic Dragon? Well, this old dragon is celebrating 50 years - he is just a bit younger than me! Old Puff lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honalee! I may not know where "Honalee" is, but I do remember the story and song of the dragon named, Puff! So, when I learned of a new board book which tells the story of Puff, I was delighted for the opportunity to review it . . . and to give one away!

Don't Keep Secret God's Great Faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulnessA couple days ago I wrote about the great faithfulness of God. I said, "Aren't you glad to know God's love for you is unwavering and determined in purpose? I am! God loves me on my best days! God loves me on my worst days! God loves me on all my in-between days! And, this amazing, steadfast, unwavering love of God for me NEVER ceases! It never stops! Not ever! As if this wasn't enough, His mercies NEVER come to an end! God gives me His mercy when I blow it! God gives me His mercy when I just mess up a little. God gives me His mercy and His mercy is new every morning! As if all this wasn't enough, Great is His faithfulness! I can always depend on God to do what He says He will do because He is faithful!"

I'm Giving Away a Matilda Doll - Do You Know Your History?

We are only a couple weeks away from the drawing for the Matilda, A Girl for All Times Doll, so I thought with all the attention which has been on England with the Olympics, I'd talk today about this doll and genealogy. One of the unique features to this beautiful doll is the way it follows a family through the history of England. Not only is Matilda a beautiful doll for a girl to play with, but she encourages learning as well! Learning about the "history" of Matilda and her family, learning about the real history of England and learning your own history as well!

Ice Cream Scoop on a StickIf you have an end-of-summer party planned and are looking for something simple and fun which you can do for dessert, take a look at this fun - and tasty - idea I found on Pinterest for ice cream on a stick!

Great is His Faithfulness!

Great is Thy faithfulnessI love Lamentations 3:22, "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness." Just stop and think about it . . .the "steadfast" love of the Lord never ceases! Steadfast! I'm so glad God's love is steadfast. The dictionary defines steadfast as, "unwavering or determined in purpose". Aren't you glad to know God's love for you is unwavering and determined in purpose? I can always depend on God to do what He says He will do because He is faithful!

Summer Fun . . . Ice Eggs!

Ice EggsI found an idea on Pinterest which sounds like so much fun for the next hot summer day . . . Ice Eggs! So . . . what, you ask, are ice eggs? Well, they are "eggs" you make with water in balloons which you then freeze! What might you possibly do with ice eggs, you also ask? Well . . . apparently there are lots of things you can do with ice eggs . . . including playing games such as "ice bowling" and you can freeze "surprises" in them for your grandchildren to discover!
