Make Sure You Do These Things . . .

Do you have a child, grown child, and/or grandchild who once believed in God, walked with Him, and was excited about their faith, but who now no longer believes? Or worse, who now says they are an atheist or agnostic? Do you have someone you love who is questioning their faith? If so, you are not alone. In fact, according to Barna's studies, more young people from Gen Z (those born between 1997 and 2015) are turning away from their faith and to atheism at double the rate than any previous generation (https://www.barna.com/research/atheism-doubles-among-generation-z/) Yes double the rate.

So, what do we do? Do we just throw up our hands and give in to the loss of the ones we love? Of course not. But what do we do? Consider the following . . .

grandma's new bug spray!

I have MS and Lupus . . . which means, I tend to experience pain on a regular basis. I do not want to take pain-killers for several reasons, but mostly because they make me sleep and I do not want to sleep away my life and, because I know it is far, too easy for people to become addicted to pain-killers. So, I tend to just push through and try to ignore the pain - some times this is easier than others.

grandma's chuckles - "The Answer to Happiness is Lemonade!"

Most Friday or Saturday nights my grandsons spend the night at my house. We love sleepovers! Today I am reminded of something which happened a couple years on a Friday sleepover at my house. On the following Saturday morning, my oldest grandson came over to me with a huge smile on his face and said; "Grandma, the answer to happiness is lemonade!Of course after laughing, I got the sweet and funny boy a glass of lemonade!

The Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents

When it comes to being grandma - or grandpa - there are so many wonderful things we get to do; things which bring us joy . . . and sometimes hugs, kisses, snuggles, "I love yous", and memories we treasure, too! But, there are also things we must be careful not to do, so today I'm sharing with you my Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents.

DIY Soothing, Healing Skin Cream

When one of my grandsons was younger, he had a pretty serious case of eczema. We, and his parents, tried a number of creams and ointments to give him relief, but had limited success.

Be Kind. Be Kind. Be Kind.

Simple to say, simple to remember, and actually simple to do, as being kind is not difficult once you make the choice to do so. Encourage your grandchildren to be people who are kind, because when they do this, they truly will be successful in what matters the most - in the type of person they are.

Terra Cotta Luminaries

If your grandchildren are a bit older - elementary and high school age - I have a fun project you could do with them . . . one which they could use as gifts for parents, school teachers, Sunday school teachers or even something they could use as a thank-you/hostess gift for a friend's mom when they are invited over for dinner or some special event. Terra Cotta Luminaries are pretty straight-forward to make, but give your grandchildren an opportunity to express their own creativity - they could design it to match a season, holiday or just decorate it however they like!

Get Out, Enjoy the Summer with the Alevo Alu!

A month ago I wrote about how summer was nearly upon us and shared about the Alevo Alu rollator. Today I want to take time to write about this rollator again as summer is here and this rollator will "open the door" for you to get out and enjoy the warmer weather and longer days - well, at least the days stay light for longer. Covid restrictions have mostly been removed for those who have their shots and your grandchildren are enjoying their summer vacation - and may be at your home more often. All these things mean it is the perfect time to get out and enjoy summer with the ones you love!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day from Grandmas with Heart. We, as grandmas, are blessed to see the impact a godly dad and grandpa are able to make on the generations who come behind. Thank you for handing down confident faith - it matters what you do.

Hot Summer Fun

sponge_water_bombs_HoH_13Today where I live in West Michigan, it is typically supposed to be 80 degrees, but it is not . . . currently, as I write this at 7:37 it is 57. But, eventually it will be warm . . . or at least warmer! When it is warm, what could be more fun than making and playing with sponge bombs! I found this link on Pinterest, but when I tried to follow it to the site with the directions, it told me it had been reported the site had spam, so I found another one for you!

grandma's chuckles:^) . . . "It's Bigfoot! Run For Your Lives!"

Grandchildren are such a joy - they make our hearts happy! They also make us laugh from time to time! So, today I thought I'd share with you a post I wrote almost ten years ago about about something Josiah did which made me laugh - and still makes me laugh when I remember what he said!

Make a Remarkable Impact

We grandmas, and grandpas, have the remarkable opportunity to hand down confident faith to the children He has placed into our lives. And as grandparents, we are able to make a significant impact on their lives - if we take the action to do so.

Saving a Baby Elephant & Passing On Confident Faith

Do you remember a few years back when there was a report on the news about a little baby elephant in a zoo in Seoul, Korea? The baby was walking along a water feature in it's area when it fell in. The water was deep and the baby was at risk of drowning.

The "Role" of Grandma - Be a "Mirror"

I am writing today about the "role" of grandma, but, I do want to say, this "role" is also for grandpas and parents, too. It is one of the "roles" for grandparents and parents - the two most influential people in the lives of the children we love, but since I'm a grandma, I am writing this from the perspective of a grandma.

grandma's cookbook - Lemonade Ice Cream Pie

Each year I try to be sure to share this simple, yet oh-so-tasty recipe for Lemonade Ice Cream Pie. grandmas cookbook - Orange Zest Butter Cookies

Orange Butter Cookies with Grand Marnier GlazeWhen it comes to cookies my family tends to favor the "classics" . . .  chocolate chip-peanut-butter-oatmeal, plain chocolate chip or plain peanut-butter cookies. But every once in a while I like to try something different and this recipe, which I found on Pinterest, is certainly one I'd like to try! After all, what could be more "yummie" sounding than orange butter cookies?!!!!

Just for Fun - Science Projects

My grandson enjoy science projects. From time-to-time I have shared several of their favorites with you and today I'm doing so once again. Two all-time favorite science experiments are making Ivory Soap Clouds and  Elephant's Toothpaste

It is Children's Day - Celebrate!

Today is Children's Day - yes, this is a real holiday . . . "Children’s Day observations in the United States predate both Mother’s and Father’s Day. The day to celebrate children dates from the 1860s and earlier. The Methodist Episcopal Church at the Methodist Conference of 1868 recommended the second Sunday in June be observed annually as Children’s Day. The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in 1883 designated the 'the second Sabbath in June as Children’s Day'

Chocolate Lasagna!

Slices of chocolate lasagna on white plates.A few years ago, I brought the dessert to a family celebration . . . Chocolate Lasagna - which happens to be one of the best desserts EVER!!! Particularly on a hot, summer day as there is no cooking or baking involved!

Make a Blessings Book

Regardless of our age, if we make the choice to be a thankful person, we are more likely to be stronger and healthier mentally speaking. It is healthy for us to have an "attitude of gratitude"! This is something important for us to practice in our daily lives, and for us to teach the children we love.

As Covid Comes to an End - Equip Parents & Grandparents

As states move past mask orders and churches have people without masks in them, you may make the choice to stay home until your children or grandchildren are able to be vaccinated. I know I will continue with at-home church with my grandsons as even though their poppa and I are fully vaccinated, they are not, and I do not want to see them get sick with covid.

Summer Fun

As I browsed on  Pinterest the other day, I noticed the plans for making a giant outdoor game . . . so I took a closer look! This game looks like it would be great fun for a family to play on a warm summer day! Set it up on a deck, driveway, sidewalk . . . and then have fun all summer long!

Do It. Make the Difference. Do What Matters.

In the past year we have experienced how one person is able to make a difference when it comes to spreading covid-19 and when it comes to standing up, listening, and bringing about change in our country for how people of color are treated. These are important things for us to do and talk about with the children we love. One person is able to make a difference - this is something we have been able to see.

These Memories are a Treasure

There are many things people in the world consider to be "treasure" . . . gold, money, jewels, etc. But for me, I treasure people and memories. I consider the people in my life to be gifts from the hand of God . . . especially my family.

Beat the Heat with Water Fun

Where I live in Michigan it is supposed to in the 90's today. Depending on where you live this may or may not seem very hot, but when you add in the humidity which will accompany the high  temperatures, our heat index (or humisery index) is expected to top 100 degrees. An uncomfortable day ahead for sure.
