Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park's Permanent Chihuly Collection

For the past 15 days I have been writing about Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park's special Dale Chihuly exhibit which you are able to enjoy now through November 1st just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I thought it would be interesting to share with you some information I found online about each of the pieces/displays which make up Chihuly at Meijer, and have been doing so. The Chihuly exhibit is quite a wonderful thing to experience - all the color, design, shapes - absolutely enjoyable exhibit for sure! And, while the exhibit throughout the sculpture park is half way through it's time at Meijer Garden (it will be there until November 1st, so there is still time to enjoy it), the inside Chihuly Radiant Forms will be available to enjoy through January 10th inside the Sculpture Gallery.

Today I want to write about the Chihuly art which is part of the permanent collection at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park - you will be able to see them any time you visit -

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan houses three major permanent interior glass art installations by Dale Chihuly, complemented by rotating major temporary exhibitions.
Permanent Installations
  • Gilded Champagne Gardens Chandelier (2002): A radiant cascade of blown-glass elements suspended from a steel armature, located indoors in the Loeschner Grand Atrium.
  • Lena's Garden (2009): A 60-foot-long ceiling installation in the James & Shirley Shirley Balk Café (formerly Taste of the Gardens Café). It features dozens of rippling, colorful blown-glass discs from Chihuly’s Persians series, honoring Lena Meijer’s love for flowers.
  • Chartreuse Icicle Tower (2026): is a towering 30-foot glass sculpture created by artist Dale Chihuly. It features more than 1,800 individual handblown glass forms designed to capture and radiate natural and artificial light in the Tassell-Wisner-Bottrall English Perennial Garden.
Key Highlights of Chihuly at the Gardens
  • Permanent vs. Special Exhibitions: While the atrium, café, and English Garden house the permanent fixtures, the venue periodically hosts massive, temporary outdoor and indoor retrospectives (such as the expansive CHIHULY: Radiant Forms and outdoor site-specific installations spanning the 158-acre campus).
  • Core Media: The works showcase Chihuly's signature mastery of organic, luminous blown-glass shapes, brilliant color spectrums, and large-scale architectural placement.
Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park's permanent collection of CHIHULY art provides the opportunity for you to enjoy Chihuly at Meijer all year long - and enjoy it you will as each piece is truly amazing! I personally love the "Lena's Garden" installation the most because of all the color and shapes - truly incredible, but the "Gilded Champagne Gardens Chandelier" and the "Chartreuse Icicle Tower" will without a doubt capture your attention and leave you in awe of the beauty and work it took to craft these pieces from blown glass. Meijer Garden's permanent collection of Chihuly art allows you to enjoy this art all year long - be sure to bring your camera so you will be able to to take photos as you enjoy this amazing art!
The Chihuly permanent collection will give you so much to see at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park along with all their other amazing sculptures and gardens!
