grandma's cookbook - Potato, Squash, Oat Bread

I live in the house my grandparents built - my dad was born in this house and when I was a child, I often was able to have a sleepover at my grandparent's and always loved when my grandma baked bread - when it came out of the oven I always got a fresh-from-the-oven slice of bread to enjoy! What could be better! Now I'm the grandma in this house and when my grands come over I often make bread for them!

Since today is National Homemade Bread day, I thought I'd share one more recipe with you - homemade potato, squash, oat bread - it is wonderfully tasty for sure!

If you would like to try this recipe with the people you love, this is it . . .

Today is National Homemade Bread Day! 17

Today is National Homemade Bread Day, so I thought I'd share a favorite recipe for baguettes! I received baguette pans a few years ago for Christmas, so I found a recipe on-line which I use, but I do not steam the bread - I like a soft crust, not crunchy. I know, not a "true" baguette, but it is tasty for sure! You will find the recipe at this link.

Let's look at some fun bread facts, did you know . . .

Today is Odd Socks Day!

I wrote about Odd Socks Day a couple days ago, but since today is actually Odd Socks Day, I'm posting about it again. Just a reminder - Nationaltoday.com says, "Odd Socks day is held on the first Monday of the third week in November. The event is not only a great way to express uncanny styles, it’s also promoting a good cause. The day is meant to remind us to think about our words before we say them and their effects on others.

There are hundreds of toppers - toppers which are available all the time and nearly every week they release some limited edition toppers, guaranteeing there is absolutely something for everyone for sure! Today I want to let you know about my new topper - The Holiday Bauble with Foil Crystal -

November 26th is International Cake Day - Let's Make Lemon Cake!

November 26th is International Cake Day, so today seems like a great day to share my lemon cake recipe with you. Okay . . . the truth is I really do not need a reason to have cake because I do truly love cake . . . but even though I rarely eat cake, you might enjoy some, so what could be better than to share with you a  recipe for a lemon cake? I love lemon cake! It is moist, slightly tart, and just flat yummie . . .

Be Thankful - Beware of the Thankfulness Thieves

Yes, I know Thanksgiving is still a week and a half away and so of course we tend to think  about being thankful this time of year, but being thankful is more than just something we think about in November; it should characterize our lives every day! In I Thessalonians 5 we read:

"16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

These verses are talking about a heart attitude; not just a focus for November each year. So, what are those attitudes which damage or diminish this heart attitude in us; and in our grandchildren? Consider the following . . .

Gift Idea - Mickey Check Topper from Pair Eyewear!

From time to time, and as recently as three days ago, I write about Pair Eyewear. As I've said, this past year when I needed a new prescription for my glasses, I switched to Pair Eyewear. I was very curious about their line of glasses because they had these "toppers" - magnetic "tops" which you could put on your glasses for an entirely new look. At only $30 or less per topper, it seemed to me to be a fantastic way to have more than one look for my glasses - at a fraction of what it would cost to buy extra new regular glasses. And yes, Pair Eyewear is fantastic - and brilliant!

grandma's chuckles - Show Love to Grandma Day & Important Conversations

Today my heart is filled with thankfulness as I remember a wonderful day ten years ago which which my grands made up to celebrate; "Show Love to Grandma Day!" All three grands sat down at the table and started drawing hearts and flowers to make pictures for me, to say, "I love you!" Even my youngest grand (two years old at the time) wanted to get in on it all . . . he had me draw the flowers, then he colored them!

Get Ready - Monday is Odd Socks Day!

Yes, Monday, November 17th, is Odd Socks Day. What is Odd Socks Day, you ask? Well, Nationaltoday.com says, "Odd Socks day is held on the first Monday of the third week in November. the little answer book Is For You

Do you have someone in your family who once walked with God, but no longer do? Someone who at one time went to and was active in their church, but today they say they are not even sure if God is real? Or, do you know someone for whom these things are true?

Make the Most of Being a Grandparent with The DNA of Grandparents & Parents Who Hand Down Confident Faith

If you are looking for a book to help a parent or grandparent you love make the most of handing down confident faith, consider this book - The DNA of Grandparents & Parents Who Hand Down Confident Faith.

In this book I look at how our physical DNA is a truly amazing and essential part of who we are, as it holds the "code" or instructions for the things which make us unique as well as for the things we share. It connects us with the generations who came before us; as well as with those who come behind. It is the core of who we are physically.

crafting with grandma - Nativity Ornament

Nativity Ornament Wood Craft TutorialIt is so easy for children to focus on the "getting" part of Christmas . . . what gifts will they "get"? What activities will they "get" to do? How many parties will they "get" to go to? The list goes on. But, Christmas is really about giving, God gave His Son to us! Well . . . I guess it is also about "getting" as we are the ones who "get" to receive the gift of Grace and forgiveness from God!

At any rate, Christmas is a wonderful time of year to help our grandchildren focus on "giving" and one way we can help them to do this is by helping them make ornaments which they can then give to their neighbors, friends, teachers, shut-ins, coaches, pastors . . . you help them decide who to give them to!
