grandma's cookbook - No-Bake Cookies!

Around my house there is a cookie which whenever I make them, never stays around for long . . . the no-bake cookie! And, since today is going to be hot - in the 80s and humid - a no-bake cookie is definitely the kind of cookie to make if you are making cookies today! Try my grandma's recipe with your grandchildren . . . it is sure to become a family favorite!

Summer Fun . . . Ice Eggs!

I found an idea on  Pinterest which sounds like so much fun for the a hot summer day . . . Ice Eggs! So . . . what, you ask, are ice eggs? Well, they are "eggs" you make with water in balloons which you then freeze! What might you possibly do with ice eggs, you also ask? Well . . . apparently there are lots of things you can do with ice eggs . . . including playing games such as "ice bowling" and you can freeze "surprises" in them for your grandchildren to discover!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About New Years, Good Friday, and Easter in Canada

There are three more holidays in Canada which I'm going to write about, but these three holidays are the same in the USA, so I'm going to combine them in this post today - New Years, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday. I'll start with New Years in Canada . . .

Do Your Ears Hang Low?

Reading to and with the children we love is one of the most important things we can ever do to help them speak sooner, develop a larger vocabulary, begin to read, and do better in school, so reading to and with them in the Summer - and all year - is one of the best ways we are able to spend our time with them. Since I'm waiting for more books to arrive, today I'm very happy to let you know about a book I reviewed a few years ago from Union Square Kids - it was one of my grands' favorite books! Do Your Ears Hang Low? illustrated by Jenny Cooper is a "must-get" book and is sure to be a favorite of the children you love, too!

Summer Fun - 100 Free Things Kids Can Do!

It can be fun to do things with children - especially if it is free to do the things! So, when I was browsing on Pinterest and saw a Pin which said, "100 Free Things to Do With Your Kids This Summer" I had to check it out! The link leads to a blog called,  digitalreflections and I'll share just a few of the 100 free things . .  . be sure to follow the link and see which ideas look like something you and your grandchildren can do and do at least of few of them this summer!

crafting with grandma - Father's Day Gift!

I was looking on  Pinterest and saw a very creative, cute, simple, and affordable idea for a Father's Day gift which a dad will be sure to love and treasure . . . and one your grandchildren can make!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Christmas & Boxing Day

It is no surprise to learn Canada celebrates Christmas on December 25th pretty much the same way as we do here in the USA - trees, decorations, gifts, Nativity scenes, time with family, etc. I would have been surprised if Canada did not celebrate Christmas.

But, I have been very happy to learn about Boxing Day, which is celebrated on December 26th and is not a holiday we celebrate here in the USA - this is what I've learned . . .

Children's Day Book Ideas

Children's Day is the second Sunday in June and yes, it is a real holiday - not one invented by me! If you are looking for a gift idea for the children you love, consider the following books . . .

the little answer book for children - this book is available at the following  link  and will help you teach the children you love why they are able to believe God is real, know science and God go together, God is good, and the Bible is true. As you work through the books you will be able to help them journal the things they learn and participate in activities to help them remember. (This book does present the Evolutionary Creationist view.)

Summer Fun . . . Vacation Memory Jars!

Summer is the time for many special times and memories . . . some of which are created on vacations! If your grandchildren are going on a vacation this  summer, or will be doing something special during the summer - consider helping them make their own Vacation Memory Jars! I found this idea on Pinterest and thought I'd share it with you!

grandma's cookbook - Father's Day Truffles!

Father's Day is June 21st, and if the dads in your life are like the dads in my life, it is usually difficult to find a perfect gift for them! So, when I was browsing on  Pinterest and saw a recipe for M&M Cookie Dough Truffles . . . well, they looked to me like Father's Day Truffles! (I know my hubby LOVES M&M's and cookie dough!)

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" about Remembrance Day

Canadians celebrate a day, well it is more remember a day which is remembered here in the USA, too, but they call it a different name - Remembrance Day (In the USA it is called Veterans Day.) But, no matter what it is called, whether you are Canadian or from the USA, this day is a day to remember the end of World War 1 and honor the Veterans. This is what I've learned about Remembrance Day -

The Little, Ginormous, Humongous, Hairy, One-Eyed Monster Boys Adventures

What could be a better way to start the summer than with books! So, today I am very happy to let you know about a fun book . . .  The Little, Ginormous, Humongous, Hairy, One-Eyed Monster Boys Adventures - and this book has two stories in it, so you get two books in one!

There May Be Pirates at Your House!!!

If you have young grandchildren and want to have some fun with them this summer at your house, consider "inviting" "pirates" to your home. When my grands were young we had two pirates who apparently buried "treasure" in the sandbox at my house! My grands were busy each weekend that summer digging for treasure in the sand box and lo and behold, they found some!
