I love it when the lilies start to bloom - in my yard, alongside the road, and of course throughout Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park - I do find lilies to be such a beautiful flower, so today is a day to share some fun facts about lilies with you, so you can share them with the children you love . . .

Mother's Day Gift Idea - Hand-print Picture Frame!

As I've mentioned a time or two - or likely many more . . . I love photos of my sweet grands! I also loved to do tracings of their little hands when they were little, so when I saw this craft I absolutely fell in love with it! It makes a great, personalized, and unique way to frame a photo!

Mother's Day is May 10th, so if you are looking for a great gift which you can help your grandchildren make for their mom, take a look at this terrific idea I found on Pinterest for a hand-print picture frame!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Nova Scotia

Today I am very happy to share with you some interesting information about another Canadian Providence - Nova Scotia! I believe I would very much enjoy the opportunity to visit this place as it looks like there is very much to see and do in Nova Scotia for sure!

A Simple Mother's Day Idea Which Will Be Treasured!

Our grandchildren grow up so fast . . . just as our children did. I'm very thankful for photos and for handprints which help me remember them when they were little . . . so when I saw this handprint idea on  Pinterest, I knew I had to share it with you!

Today is National Orchid Day

This past January I was able to enjoy an incredible Orchid Show at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park - so since today is National Orchid Day, I thought I'd share some interesting facts about these amazing and beautiful flowers. Did you know . . .

April 11th Was Pet Day

For the second year in a row I missed Pet Day, which was April 11th! I can't believe I missed writing about it again, but if you have a pet, you know every day is "Pet Day", so I'm writing about it today. Most of us have, or have had, a pet and consider them to be part of our family. When my husband Dave and I were first married, we had a Basset Hound; we named her Mindy. When we had children, Mindy was a "mother hen" to them! She was definitely a part of our family for a long time!

Lilacs - Shockingly, Related to Olives!

While I do have the "black thumbs of death", I very much enjoy seeing beautiful flowers bloom - one reason I enjoy our membership to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park as the people there absolutely do NOT have the "black thumbs of death"! A few years ago my daughter gave me some lilac bushes - my husband planted them and shockingly, they are growing!

I LOVE lilacs! Especially the darker purple lilacs - they are SO pretty and the fragrance of lilacs is one of my favorite fragrances! This is why the flower for today is lilac - so, here are some fun facts about lilacs . . .

I'm a Lost Canadian!

I would like to invite you to join me on a journey as I learn about Canada! I have lived most of my life in West Michigan, just thirty minutes from beautiful Lake Michigan. I lived for a few years in Northern California, two hours from Oregon, where I met my husband - but I was born in West Michigan and have lived most of my life here. Of course I knew my dad and my grandpa, but my great-grandpa died before I was born. Along with not knowing him, I also did not know - until last week - my great grandpa was born in Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada, and my great-great grandpa and great-great grandma were born in East Hawkesbury, Prescott, Ontario, Canada, and  Argenteuil, Quebec, Canada.

Irises - Beautiful, but Could be a Problem . . .

One of my favorite flowers is the Iris! My grandma always had such beautiful Irises - since I now live in what was once her house, each year I get to enjoy her irises when they bloom all over again - which is even more of a treat since they were my grandma's irises to begin with! So, as I thought about which flowers to write about this Spring, of course I had to include the Iris - did you know . . .
