crafting with grandma - DIY Lanyard Knot Holder for Father's Day!

Father's Day is just a few days away, so I thought I'd share a fun gift idea which I found on  Pinterest - a DIY Lanyard Knot Holder! This is something you can help your grandchildren make which their dad is  actually likely to use!

crafting with grandma - Let's Make Puzzle Crafts!

Today is NOT actually National Puzzle Day - January 29th was, but it is very rainy today and is supposed to be rainy for two more days, so what do you do on a rainy day with grandchildren? Make something fun!

While I was never a huge "fan" of assembling puzzles, I LOVE crafts with puzzle pieces! Not only are puzzle crafts interesting and unique, but they tend to be inexpensive as most of us have puzzles in our closets which are missing at least a piece or two . . . or they can be purchased at garage sales for typically less than a dollar! I'll share some fun puzzle craft ideas with you, but first some fun puzzle facts, did you know . . .

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About La Mauricie National Park

I live in and grew up in West Michigan, so I'm very familiar with lakes, forests, beautiful colors in the Fall (the reason so many of us take "color tours" where we drive around enjoying the Fall in all its beauty). So, if you, like me, enjoy trips where you are able to see lakes and forests and even amazing mountains (sadly something we do not have here in West Michigan), then a trip to La Mauricie National Park is a trip you are most certainly going to love!

The Language of Science and Faith - a MUST Have Book for us All

I have been writing for some time about the need for us as grandmas (grandpas/parents, as well) to equip ourselves so we know the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real and trust Him with confidence, so we are able to teach the "whys" to the children we love. When we are losing more of our grandchildren than ever before to atheism, we must step up and take action. We must equip ourselves, find and use resources with them to help them know the "whys", and ask our churches to do the same.

Grandparenting is about far more than baking cookies, having sleepovers, staying in touch with our grandchildren, and hugs . . . although I am strongly in favor of all those things, it is about handing down confident faith. It is about stepping up and focusing on learning what we need to know so we are able to help the ones we love know what they need to know. We must not fail to do this.

June Photo Challenge

Today I'm posting to my own facebook page the following photo -

Throughout the month of June I plan to share photos of someone for whom I'm ever so thankful. Someone who fills my heart with joy! Someone whose presence in my life reminds me of God's great love for me.

The Role of Grandma – Become a ‘Student’ of Your Grandchildren

When I think about the role of grandma, I do believe it is essential for me to become a ‘student’ of my grandchildren. It is my job, my ‘role’ to get to know them and what makes them tick.

This matters so much, for several reasons. Consider the following . . .

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Kouchibouguac National Park

Today I'm very happy to let you know about a very interesting National Park in New Brunswick, Canada - Kouchibouguac National Park. In addition to being quite beautiful, there are two very surprising things about this Park - at least I found them to be surprising!

Praying Deeper Books

Praying for our grandchildren (and children) is something we all know we need to do, but it is also something with which many of us struggle. We may feel like our prayers do not even make it through the ceiling above us and do not know what to say or how to pray. Our lives are busy, so finding the time to pray can be a challenge which we may not overcome and then days go by without us spending time in prayer.

Summer Fun . . . The Unpoppable Bubble!

Summer is upon us, so today I'm sharing one more idea I found on Pinterest which you could use with the children you love to do something surprising and fun. After all, what could be more fun and surprising than making unpoppable bubbles? :-)

Memories - Build Some Today!

I live in the house my grandparent's built almost one hundred years ago - back in the 1920's. My dad was born in this house (the photo is of him, his friends, and my grandma in front of the house) and I remember visiting my grandparents and having sleepovers in this house. I remember my grandma baking homemade bread and then giving me a slice with peanut butter on it after it came out of the oven. I remember singing Sunday school songs with my grandpa when I visited them! There are a lot of wonderful memories in this house!

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Kootenay National Park

If you are interested in visiting the Canadian Rockies, but are concerned Banff may be too crowded, then consider visiting Kootenay National Park as it is also part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site and adjacent to Banff National Park, so you get all the beauty and less of the crowds!

Don't Worry: It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren - Look What People Are Saying About It!

I am very happy to say, Don't Worry: It is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren is available on Kindle and as a print version on Amazon - and it makes a wonderful gift for the parents and grandparents you know! But not only for parents and grandparents as if you are an aunt, uncle, or someone who works with children, this book is for you, too.

Summer Fun . . . Squirt Gun Volcano!!!

Around this grandma's house when my grands were younger, squirt gun "fights" were great fun! So, when I found a site on Pinterest with the amazing idea for a "Squirt Gun Volcano" I knew I had to try it with the grands - and they loved it.

National Donut Day!

Today is National Donut Day - I do love donuts, but rarely eat them. However, a day to celebrate these wonderful, tasty treats is a great - or tasty idea for sure! So, on this day I thought I'd share some fun information about donuts and a recipe for baked donuts - they have to be better for you than fried donuts, although, certainly not "healthy". So, first for some fun facts - did you know . . .
