As you think about making this a Summer to read with your grandchildren , you may wonder what books are out there and make great titles to include in your Summer Reading List. Well, there are many, many wonderful books, but the following are a few of my favorites. Let's start with books for preschool and early elementary age children.

Today I've been writing about reading to and with the children we love and I often write about handing down confident faith to our grandchildren. As I have said before; "We so easily become distracted by the things in this world. We lose focus of what is truly most important and think things like earning more money, taking bigger and better vacations, owning a bigger and new home, driving new cars, etc. are important, when in truth, none of these things matter. Not really. If we end up with all these things, but fail to hand confident faith to our grandchildren will we say, "Oh well. I had a great car, house and big bank account!"? No. Nothing, please allow me to repeat, NOTHING is more important than handing down confident faith to our grandchildren.

Three years ago my three grandsons and I began a project together. We wanted to learn about interesting animals and how they might help us know God is real and God and science DO go together. At first we thought we might just write two or maybe three books, but when the project was completed we ended up with twelve books! Each book has at least twelve interesting animals in it - many of which we had never heard of before! We included full-color photos, fun, interesting, and even surprising facts about each animal, Bible verses, quotes from scientists, and activities to help children, teens, parents, and grandparents engage with what they were learning in fun and memorable ways. These books - the Life on the Goldilocks Planet series - are available to help families learn together how our amazing world shows us God is real and God and Science DO go together!
My grandsons love science projects . . . one reason I included science projects in my curriculum - Generations Quest - Cultivate the Faith! During COVID my grandsons and I put together twelve books -the Life on the Goldilocks Planet series - which help us see how animals show us God is real because He made everything "just right". In these books (which I have shared with you before), you find full-color photos, fun facts, along with crafts, science projects, and recipes for the entire family to enjoy as they learn about the animals and discover how they help them have a confident faith. These books (The Life on the Goldilocks Planet series) are ideal for children ages four through fourteen - and the entire family.

As a grandma/mom I know there is nothing more important than handing down confident faith to the ones I love. I wish I knew when my children were young and when my grandchildren were younger, handing down confident faith must include teaching the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real, the Bible is true, God and science DO go together, and God is good - just as we teach the "whats" - what the Bible says and therefore what we believe. It is essential for us to teach the "whys", but sadly, there are not many resources to help us do this. There are some, but not many.
We parents and grandparents tend to do a decent job when it comes to teaching the "whats" - what the Bible says and therefore "what" we believe. But, we do not teach the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real, the Bible is true, God and science DO go together, and God is good. When we do not teach the "whys" we open the door for someone to question what we believe and for the ones we love to turn away from their faith when they do not know the answers. We must teach the "whys" so they know the answers and are able to have a confident faith.
