Teach the "Whys" this Winter & Have Fun Doing So!

We know we (parents/ grandparents/church) must teach the "whats" - what the Bible says and therefore what we believe, but just as important as it is to do this, it is equally as important to teach the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real, the Bible is true, God and science DO go together, and God is good. If we do not teach the "whys" we run the very real risk the young people we love will turn away from their faith - as Barna's studies show this is actually happening.

Reading books to and with children is an important and essential thing for us to do - it helps children become people who learn more easily, helps them develop their vocabulary, prepares them to be people who read, strengthens their ability read, and so much more! Yes, reading with the ones we love is a powerful thing we are able to do to make a difference in their lives.

But, when the reading also helps us hand down a confident faith by teaching the "whys" - why we are able to believe God is real and God and science DO go together, then we have even more reasons to read and give books which equip us to do this. One thing we grandmas know (and grandpas/ parents, too) is we do not know what a day holds and we must make the most of the time we have. It matters what we do and say today. We are able to hand confident faith to the ones we love. We are able to help them become people who love, know, and walk with God because they know the "whys" - why they are able to believe God is real, and God and science DO go together.

Living from southern Canada, through the desert of Southwest United States and into Mexico is a very amazing, “mighty”, mouse – the Grasshopper Mouse. These mice remind me of Nehemiah 9:6 – You are the Lord, You alone. You have made heaven, the earth and all that is on it; and You preserve all of them. 

God made everything on Earth, including Grasshopper Mice so let’s see what we are able to learn about them . . .

·  When you think about animals which are ferocious predators, you typically do not picture tiny mice . . . but after reading this, you will!

I have truly enjoyed learning more about animals with which I am familiar - such as Komodo Dragons, Blue Whales, and Whale Sharks. I have also enjoyed learning about animals I did not know existed - such as  Red-Lipped Batfish, Rufous Hummingbirds, Gharials, Asiatic Lions, Giant Purple Squirrels, Dumbo Octopuses, Sumatran Rhinoceros, Baikal Seals, Guanacos, and Kakapos! Fun Science Project

My grandsons love science projects . . . one reason I included science projects in my curriculum - Generations Quest - Cultivate the Faith! They are such engaging, "hands-on" and memorable ways to help my grandsons learn important things. So, I am always on the watch for new projects which I can try with my grandsons.
