Summer Reading - Rez Kid

I'm happy today to let you know about one more book from Kids Can Press - Rez Kid by Andrea Landry and illustrated by Isabella Fassler.

Today is National Tell a Joke Day!

Why don’t cats like online shopping? They prefer a cat-alogue.

What do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef.

What is a cat’s favorite song? Three Blind Mice.

What do you call an alligator wearing a vest? An investi-gator.

Okay, well, Today is National Tell a Joke Day, so I thought I'd share a few jokes from the Today Show's Jokes for Kids - you will find more at this link, because of course, one big way to celebrate Tell a Joke Day, is by telling jokes!

Summer Reading - Catnip Mouse

Today I am happy to let you know about another new book from Kids Can Press - catnip mouse by AJ Smith.

Saturday - August 16th - is World Honey Bee Day!

Yes, tomorrow we will all be able to celebrate the amazing honey bee as it is World Honey Bee Day on the 16th! On days of the year (dot) com it says, "World Honey Bee Day is an awareness day whereby honey bee enthusiasts, beekeeping associations and clubs, and beekeepers celebrate the honey bee. It is a day to recognize the contribution honey bees make to our everyday lives, as well as learning about the different steps we can take in order to protect this vital species." So, let's take a look at some fun honey and bee facts which we are able to share with the children we love - did you know . . .

National Lemon Meringue Pie Day

Today is National Lemon Meringue Pie Day - and while I certainly enjoy a tasty slice of lemon meringue pie, I'm thinking more about celebrating this with a cross between a lemon bar and lemon chiffon pie! To make this tasty treat you just need to make a butter shortbread cookie lemon bar bottom, take your lemon curd, cool it, whip the egg whites to make meringue, then fold the lemon curd and meringue together - gently - and top on the cooled butter shortbread cookie crust. This is tasty for sure!

Summer Reading - Call Me Gray

Today I am very happy to share a special book with you from Kids Can Press - Call Me Gray, written by Andrew Larsen, Bells Larsen, and illustrated by Tallulah Fontaine. Before I let you know about this book, I want to ask if you know any people who were born with physical challenges due to something which happened as they grew in utero. One of my college room mates was born with a short left arm - it ended where your elbow is, and then she had a small thumb and two small fingers on a very small left "hand". Now, no one condemned my room mate for being born with a short left arm. No one attacked her with words or certainly not physically because she was born with a short left arm. Nor should they have ever done so.

Today, August 14th, is National Creamsicle Day and a Recipe for Creamsicle Pie!

Who knew such a day even existed, but since it does, why not celebrate it??? :-) I like  creamsicles - after all, what isn't there to like about a bit of ice cream covered with an orange sherbet?

Summer Reading - I Like Your Face

I'm very happy today to share with you about another new book from Kids Can Press - I Like Your Face, written by Brad Davidson and illustrated by Rachel Mas Davidson.

It is Time for a Picnic!

When my grands were younger they enjoyed picnics - if the children you love enjoy them as well, consider making plans for a tasty time together before school begins. Gather the ones you love, decide on a menu, make a shopping list, prepare food together, and choose the location for your picnic - be sure to bring your camera!

So, since this post is about picnics, I thought it would be fun today to share some "picnic" info with you! Did you know . . .

Summer Reading - A Walk in the Park

I recently received a box of books from Kids Can Press, so this week I will be very happy to let you know about some of their new books. Today I'm writing about, A Walk in the Park by Ashley Spires.

Today is Son & Daughter Day

I do not need a special day to be thankful for and to remember the joy my daughter, son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons bring to my life, but today is Son & Daughter Day . . . the day to celebrate our sons and daughters!

It also happens to be a great evening to watch the Perseid meteor shower and, since yesterday was also 'Smores Day, one way you might celebrate together is by making 'smores - it won't matter for it to be one day after 'Smores Day.

So, on this Sons & Daughters Day, let's take a moment to look at some interesting, fun facts - did you know . . .
