Today is Encourage a Young Writer Day!

I love writing! I also love working on writing projects with my grandsons, so a day which encourages children to write is a day I believe to be well worth celebrating! We all know how essential it is for the ones we love to become people who read. When my grandsons were young we spent many evenings reading books and also making up our own special stories, so one day when they were at my house for a sleep-over I had a special project in mind for them. Since my grandsons loved making up stories with me, from time to time they even turned one of their stories into a book for me; in fact, one of my favorite birthday presents ever was the book my oldest grandson made me titled - Super Josiah Saves Grandma from all the Robot Spiders in History! This book is on my refrigerator and when I see it, it always makes me smile!

Over the past few years I have written several books which guide parents and grandparents in praying through the Scriptures for their own walk with God and for their children/ grandchildren's walk as well. One Saturday night several years ago, my husband and I went to stay with our grandsons while their  parents went out for a couple hours. When we arrived, the boys were already in bed and our younger grandson was sound asleep. Our oldest grandson was not asleep.

As our son and daughter-in-law were heading out the door, from his bedroom we heard our grandson say, "Are they gone yet?" to which we said, "No". This happened a couple times.

Grandparents & Love

As I was thinking about what to write today, God brought to mind 1 Corinthians 13:4 . . . Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

These verses give us a very clear view of what love is, and shows us how to love our grandchildren in a way which points them to God. Love is not an emotion which comes and goes. It is not something which depends on how others treat us or how our situation looks. Love is a choice. Period. We choose to love others - no matter what, because this is how God loves us; no matter what.
