The new school year is about to begin - believe it or not, so today I'm happy to share with you an idea to help you to encourage your grandchildren (of any age and in any location) and hand down a heritage of confident faith to them as well. Now, I know I shared this idea before, but with the start of school, if you did not try this idea in the past, now is the perfect time to do so.

When my grands were younger we often worked on science projects - even when they were as young as four years old they found them them interesting and fun! Today I am happy to share with you one of our favorites . . . all you need is peroxide, dish soap, and yeast . . . the result is sure to get a wonderful response from the children you love.

Thoughts From a "Lost Canadian" About Attending College in Canada as a Canadian

On the news this morning in the USA I heard about how the government is ending Student Loan programs and people with student loans are at grave risk of having their monthly payments balloon significantly. While I do not have any student loans, my grandchildren are nearing the age of when they may go to college - I am so happy to know since I am a "Lost Canadian", so are they. This means they have the option of attending college in Canada once we receive our Canadian citizenship. So, today I'm sharing with you what I'm learning about attending college in Canada as a Canadian . . .

Summer Reading - the little answer book for children

    

As you have likely noticed, from time to time I write about Barna's and Gallup's recent polls - for a very important reason . . . because we must stand up and take action to stop the loss of the ones we love. If someone does not speak up and ask others to join them, how will grandparents, parents, and church leaders know there is a way to stop what is happening? 

Dahlia Show at Frederik Meijer Gardens

If you live around or near Grand Rapids, Michigan, then next Saturday and Sunday (August 29th and 30th) are the days which give you your opportunity to get out and enjoy some amazing flowers at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and attend their Dahlia Show! Admission is free for all. Meijer Gardens collaborates with local plant clubs every year to launch a collection of flower shows. Each show is free and open to the public.

Most of my "today is" or "this month is" posts are written with the goal of encouraging you to celebrate with the ones you love. Celebrating together is a fantastic way to build a strong relationship - and this truly matters when it comes to the ones we love. Too often, especially as we get older, we think it is the responsibility of our children/ grandchildren to reach out to us, but NO! As grandmas (grandpas/parents) we are able to be the ones who reach out. It matters for us to do this. Grandparents, remember how busy you were when you were younger? Be the one who reaches out, and celebrate with the ones you love!

The children we love will be returning to school shortly. A new year of school brings with it new relationships, new learning, new experiences, new challenges - some positive, some not so positive. Of course we want to do all we are able to do to equip the children we love so they are able to face these new things with confidence and are able to grow because of them. One of the most important things we will ever do to help them is to teach them to talk with God, but how do we do this? Clearly, if we want the children we love to become people of prayer, this takes more than praying at meals.

Rice Krispie Pinwheels

My grands come to spend the night at my house almost every Saturday, so of course - since I'm their grandma - I try to have snacks they will enjoy available for them when they are here. I saw a new recipe for Rice Krispie Treat Pinwheels which I think they may enjoy, so I'm sharing the recipe with you and plan to make it for my grands.

Sandy - Yet Another Reason to Take Your Grandchildren or Children to Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park!

When I was a child one of my favorite parts of visiting Meijer Grocery store, was Sandy the Penny Pony. We could ride Sandy for just a penny - and it was SO much fun! I am actually only one year older than Sandy, so it is safe to say Sandy was a staple of my childhood.

When I got married and had children, my children also enjoyed visits to Meijer and rides on the still-only-a-penny-pony, Sandy! Happily, when my grandchildren were younger, they also enjoyed rides on the surprisingly-still-only-a-penny-pony, Sandy!
